Must Have

  • Assist with and participate in joint laboratory examinations.
  • Experience analyzing scientific and technical literature and manuals.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing technical reports and opinions from others.
  • Experience analyzing data to determine the cause of failure or damage to equipment.
  • Experience determining the scope of damage to industrial equipment following an incident.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in failure analysis, root cause determination, and damage assessment.
  • Minimum BS in materials science and engineering, metallurgical engineering, polymer science, mechanical engineering, marine engineering, or related fields.

Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer/Materials Engineer to join our Failure Analysis & Prevention (FA&P) Group. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set to join the FA&P Group. The ideal person for this role will need to not only have a strong grasp of mechanical engineering/materials science and engineering but also be flexible and a strategic thinker able to take on a variety of tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Successful candidate will be a materials/metallurgical engineer with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and principles of mechanical engineering, or a mechanical engineer with a strong understanding of materials/metallurgical engineering.
  • Perform site inspections to collect information and samples to support investigations into the cause of failures or problems with industrial equipment.
  • Assist with joint laboratory examinations with outside parties in the JS Held Laboratories.
  • Attend and participate in joint laboratory examinations at third party laboratories.
  • Experience analyzing scientific and technical literature and manuals.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing technical reports and opinions from others.
  • Experience analyzing data to determine the cause of failure or damage to equipment.
  • Experience determining the scope of damage to industrial equipment following an incident.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in failure analysis, root cause determination and damage assessment.
  • Minimum BS in materials science and engineering, metallurgical engineering, polymer science, mechanical engineering, marine engineering, or related fields.
  • Highly organized and motivated with attention to detail and a proactive approach to project work.
  • Excellent technical report writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients, attend client meetings, and present at client meetings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Testifying experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work on interdisciplinary teams and collaborate with others.

Physical and Mental Job Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and inspect all areas of mechanical, electrical and/or IT equipment.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, kneeling and lifting.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $90k - $140k. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
