Job Description

As an Applications Engineer, you will ensure customers receive optimal turbocharger solutions by liaising with customer, commercial, and engineering teams. Your role involves being the engineering voice for customers, developing performance solutions for new engine platforms, overseeing small multi-disciplinary projects, and contributing to NAPIER’s product development strategy. You will also support aerodynamic design and R&D departments in testing and development.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficient in engine simulation software (preferably GT Power)
  • Strong analytical skills for developing performance solutions
  • Effective communication of complex technical issues, both internally and externally
  • Comfortable presenting internally and externally
  • Legal authorisation to work in the UK is required
Good to have:
  • Experience in reciprocating engine/turbocharger performance simulation and testing is desirable
  • Experience in leading projects (preferred)

Who will you be working with?

Napier turbochargers are a high-end technology firm driving the advancement of turbocharging, supporting the development of the next generations of reciprocation engines. Napier Turbocharger, a Wabtec Company, has an exciting opportunity for an Applications Engineer to join a well-established business designing, manufacturing, and testing industrial turbochargers supplied into the Power Generation, Marine, and Rail Traction industries.

How will you make a difference?

Reporting to the Chief Applications Engineer, your primary role as an Applications Engineer is to ensure our customers receive the optimum turbocharger solution to meet their engine requirements. To achieve this, the role requires close liaison with the customer, commercial and engineering teams. Seniority at Senior, Principal, Specialist level will depend upon qualifications and experience.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Be the engineering voice of the customer liaising to develop performance solutions for new engine platforms.
  • Oversee small multi-disciplinary projects both internal and external.
  • Provide input into NAPIER’s forward product development strategy.
  • Work closely supporting NAPIER’s aerodynamic design and R&D departments in the testing and development.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in reciprocating engine/turbocharger performance simulation and testing is desirable.
  • Proficient in engine simulation software (preferably GT Power).
  • Experience in leading projects (preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills for developing performance solutions
  • Effective communication of complex technical issues, both internally and externally
