Job Description

The CNC Operator will be responsible for loading, unloading, and inspecting parts during the machining process, ensuring quality and achieving production standards. This role involves de-burring, polishing, and cleaning parts at the machine, performing basic math calculations, interpreting blueprints, and utilizing precision measuring instruments. The operator will run various CNC lathes and mills, maintain accurate part counts, and execute machine offsets and insert changes, striving for a scrap rate under 2%.

  • Responsible for quality of parts and achieving production standards
  • De-burring, polishing, and cleaning parts at the machine
  • Perform basic math calculations, including addition and subtraction of decimals
  • Maintain dimensional tolerances between ±.0003”-.005” or greater
  • Interpret basic dimensions on a print
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauge pins
  • Operate a minimum of 1 bar feed lathe or a Mill along with performing secondary operations
  • Maintain accurate part counts, fill out Box Tags, and Job/Quantity Tracker
  • Follow documented operator procedures such as inspection check sheets and posted operator notes
  • Maintain a clean work area and observe all safety procedures
  • Good working knowledge of CNC functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • 2+ years of prior experience operating CNC machinery

Position Summary:

Operator will load, unload, and inspect parts during the machining process. Operator will be responsible for the quality of the parts being produced and for achieving production standards. This position requires de-burring, polishing, and cleaning parts at the machine on some work.

Position Responsibilities:

  • This position requires de-burring, polishing, and cleaning parts at the machine on some work.
  • Performs basic math calculations, including addition and subtraction of decimals.
  • Maintains dimensional tolerances between ±.0003”-.005” or greater.
  • Interprets basic dimensions on a print.
  • Utilizes precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, etc.
  • Loads, unloads, and inspects parts being machined while maintaining published PPH.
  • Operates a minimum of 1 bar feed lathe, or a Mill along with performing secondary operations.
  • Maintains accurate part counts, fills out Box Tags, and Job/Quantity Tracker.
  • Reports and asks supervisor/lead for assistance with any machining problems.
  • Follows documented operator procedures such as inspection check sheets and posted operator notes
  • Maintains a clean work area and observes all safety procedures
  • Can execute machine offsets and insert changes with direction of supervisor or lead-person.
  • Produces parts with less than 2% scrap rate on a consistent basis.
  • Operates a variety of Lathes and Mills, along with secondary operations with routine supervision.
  • Operates a minimum of 2 bar feed Lathes simultaneously.
  • Operates a variety of CNC Lathes and Mills with minimal supervision.
  • Runs multiple jobs dealing with moderately complex parts. Interprets dimensions on a print, reads and understands tolerance block, local notes, revision level, etc.
  • Operates a variety of CNC Machines independently without supervision.
  • Interprets all dimensions on a print. Reads and interprets all dimensions, local notes, revision levels, surface finish and calculates non-referenced dimensions.
  • Have the ability to operate Lathe bar feed machines, some hand load Lathes, and most Mills.
  • Executes machine offsets and insert changes independently without supervision.
  • Has the ability to assess tool performance and makes changes when appropriate.
  • Has the ability to assess job performance and can determine when a job is not running efficiently. Consults with supervisor or technical department on possible improvements that can be implemented.
  • Performs some lower level set-up tasks with supervision.
  • Other duties as needed.

Position Qualifications:

Education:

HS graduate or equivalent

Experience:

2+ years of prior experience operating CNC machinery required.

Experience in manufacturing or manufacturing quality environment preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Manufacturing Environment

Lift up to 50 lbs. regularly

Requires walking, standing, bending and lifting for long periods of time

Vision abilities required to validate and enter data on computer
