Job Description

Tesla seeks a passionate Motor Technologist to join its Athens, Greece team. Responsibilities include performing 2D/3D FEA simulations of electromechanical components, developing MATLAB functions for performance modeling, designing and prototyping electric motors for automotive systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams, developing validation plans, coordinating prototyping efforts (material selection, assembly, testing), analyzing test data to improve motor efficiency and cost, overseeing small-scale manufacturing, and staying updated on cutting-edge technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electromagnetics, electrical machines, and motor design/manufacturing, plus excellent communication skills.

What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a passionate motor technologist with experience in modeling and manufacturing of electric motors. This person will be working as part of the Tesla motor technology team located in Athens, Greece, towards improving motor modeling accuracy, developing prototyping plans and providing engineering feedback to external suppliers/vendors. 

What You’ll Do
  • Perform 2D/3D FEA simulations to derive the electromagnetic behavior of various electromechanical components. 
  • Development of advanced MATLAB functions to model performance and efficiency of electromechanical systems. 
  • Design and prototype electric motors for automotive systems. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, test engineering, to optimize motor designs. 
  • Development of validation plans. 
  • Coordinate prototyping efforts, including material selection, assembly processes, and performance testing. 
  • Analyze testing data and implement improvements in motor efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Oversee production processes, ensuring quality and efficiency in small-scale manufacturing. 
  • Stay updated on cutting-edge technologies and integrate innovative solutions into the most power dense, efficient, low cost and reliable electric motors. 
What You’ll Bring
  • Studies in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.  
  • Very strong mathematical and physics background. 
  • Very strong fundamentals in electromagnetics and electrical machines. 
  •  System-Level understanding, identifying the fundamental physics principles of each system. 
  • Proven experience in motor design, analysis, and manufacturing processes. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment. 
  • English fluently in speaking, reading, and writing. 


The following will be considered a plus: 

·         Familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques, including additive manufacturing and CNC machining. 

·         Understanding of power electronics that work in conjunction with electric machines.
