Job Summary:
The EXCON Supervisor is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, firmware, software, and related infrastructure for CWES both on-site and off-site. The EXCON Supervisor assists the Technical Systems Integrator and UOTS Site Systems Administrators for maintaining and ensuring the serviceability of all equipment which supports the operations of the CWES Synthetic Environment at CMTC and the various UOTS Sites. This position applies comprehensive technical knowledge of all hardware, firmware and software which comprises the CWES Synthetic Environment, including but not limited to the Data Communication Network and the Microwave Radio Relays which support the Canadian Weapons Effects Simulation (CWES) System, the Data Communication Network Controller (DCNC), Systems Management Control (SMC), CATS Metrix and the UOTS Device Server.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Able to recommend and implement system enhancements that will maintain and/or improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and configuration management of the system.
- Provide backup and recovery services; manage file systems and disk space; manage virus protection on a routine basis.
- Must be able to provide quality technical service and produce onsite/offsite manuals and documentation.
- Maintain files to document and support the maintenance effort and keep a record of all maintenance activities in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Assist in ensuring that the building and remote sites follow and are compliant with fire and safety regulations and participate in the conduct of annual inspections.
- Assist in ensuring the performance of hardware maintenance of computers and associated peripherals either on site or assists with offsite stations.
- Onsite and offsites trouble shooting to analyze technical problems and recommend solutions.
- Set up and operate electronic test equipment to perform functional, operational, and environmental tests to evaluate performance of components, subassemblies, and assemblies.
- Conduct analysis of equipment malfunctions and utilize various maintenance and repair manuals, test equipment, wiring diagrams, schematics, electronic devices and electrical equipment and verbal instructions to rework, repair, test, troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
- Analyze and interpret test data to determine if within appropriate specifications.
- Administer Windows Server, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
- Assist in the provision of a comprehensive preventative and corrective maintenance program onsite and offsite.
- Communicate with management to propose and ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
- BSc Electronic & Computer Engineering or equivalent preferred
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Must be able to solve complex problems/tasks that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents.
- Ability to use personal computer software such as spreadsheets and word processing programs.
- Requires familiarity with the inter-relationship of circuits and judgment in executing work sequences and selection of tools and test equipment.
- Requires mental alertness and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, and/or sit for extended periods of time, and to climb stairs is required.
- Requires the ability to lift 75 pounds. Requires bending, reaching, and fitting into tight spaces to perform normal duties.
- Requires a security clearance of SECRET.
