Sledgehammer Games is seeking an Expert Facial Technical Artist for their Toronto team. This role involves designing and enhancing advanced facial animation tools to achieve highly realistic actor performances. The artist will be responsible for end-to-end facial performance solutions, managing data acquisition, photogrammetry, facial deformation, rigging, and skin/eye shaders. The position requires collaboration between animation and engineering teams to improve on-screen excellence and development workflows. Key responsibilities include driving technological solutions for quality and efficiency, converting visual objectives into actionable toolsets, maximizing current technologies, contributing to scalable production pipelines, researching new technologies, facilitating integration of solutions, and partnering with engineers and artists for performance animation.
Must have:
  • Over 10 years of experience with facial technologies in games/film
  • Proficient understanding of facial animation/scanning pipelines
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Advanced technical skills in Maya
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Solid understanding of shader development
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Deep passion for the gaming industry
Good to have:
  • Modeling and drawing skills
  • Strong demo reel showcasing dynamic character rigs and hair/cloth simulation
  • Programming experience (e.g. C++, C#)

Your Mission

As an Expert Facial Technical Artist, you will play a pivotal role in designing and enhancing our advanced facial animation tools suite, which enables highly realistic portrayals of actors’ performances.


The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience delivering end-to-end facial performance solutions for games, film, or related media, along with a comprehensive understanding of the entire pipeline—including data acquisition, photogrammetry, facial deformation, rigging, and skin and eye shaders. We seek an individual who excels at fostering collaboration between creative animation teams and technical engineering groups, with a commitment to both on-screen excellence and efficient development workflows.   • Contributing to the scalable development of production pipelines.

  • Researching and advising on new and emerging technologies with practical application in our field.

  • Facilitating communication and collaboration with internal teams to integrate innovative solutions.

  • Partnering with engineers and artists to realize creative visions in performance animation.

Player Profile

Minimum Requirements:

  • Over 10 years of hands-on experience with facial technologies in games, film, or similar sectors

  • Proficient understanding of facial animation and scanning pipelines

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience

  • Advanced technical skills in Maya

  • Strong proficiency in Python

  • Solid understanding of shader development

  • Excellent communicator and effective collaborator

  • Deep passion for the gaming industry

Extra Points:
