We are seeking a Facilities Engineer to support the effective operation and ongoing maintenance of our mechanical, electrical, and building services within a modern tech environment. The role includes assisting with the day-to-day running of key systems—such as HVAC, lighting, and electrical infrastructure—coordinating with contractors, and overseeing small works and minor projects as required. Responsibilities:
- Provide both preventative and reactive maintenance support for site services and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair issues to prevent operational disruptions and minimize downtime.
- Carry out minor facilities improvements and reactive works as needed.
- Manage contractors, coordinate planned and unplanned works, and oversee on-site activities to ensure adherence to required standards.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure the proper functioning of equipment and systems.
- Support compliance with Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Facilities regulations.
- Oversee minor project timelines, on-site completion, and ensure compliance with building codes.
- Contribute to internal audit activities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing annual maintenance shutdowns.
- Track maintenance, work orders, and other ad hoc tasks.
- Take on a variety of ad hoc responsibilities as needed.
- Support the renewal of maintenance contracts and the procurement of parts/servicing work.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of building services systems, including electrical and mechanical components.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of managing change efficiently.
- Skilled at prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines while handling multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaborating effectively within a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, fostering positive relationships.
- Highly organized with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience in systems such as SAP or other maintenance management platforms.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Preferred experience in facilities or maintenance management.
- Familiarity with UPS systems, chilled water systems, low voltage distribution networks, Building Management Systems, compressed air systems, and legionella control in water systems.
- Experience in project management, including small construction projects and M&E upgrades within lab and office settings.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
- Understanding of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations is beneficial.
- An engineering degree or equivalent qualification, with proven post-qualification experience in a maintenance environment.
- Demonstrated experience as a Facilities Maintenance Engineer or tradesperson.
This position is on-site and located in Edinburgh, UK.
