Job Description:

Are you looking to advance your career in research and development? Avago Technologies Fiber Austria GmbH, a Broadcom Inc. company, offers an exciting opportunity to work with pioneering teams and bring world-leading products from the drawing board to reality. Our Vienna office specializes in developing integrated circuits for transceiver and sensor products across industrial, medical, automotive, and aerospace applications. As we expand our IC portfolio and design complexity, we are strengthening our team by adding an analog mixed-signal ASIC Designer (schematic and layout) with a strong focus on world-class analog design experience. In this role, you will join a multidisciplinary team and contribute to senior research and development projects for optoelectronic transceivers and complex sensor ASICs.

Your specific tasks will include:

  • Collaborating with top analog and digital designers to develop new integrated mixed-signal ASICs and their functional blocks for high-performance OEICs, communication, and sensor front ends.
  • Developing analog and mixed-signal blocks, arranging them into functional groups, and combining them into a mixed-signal hierarchy and design.
  • Taking responsibility for the complete schematic and layout of the ASIC, as well as the entire product lifecycle and project management. This includes detailed technical customer communication, ASIC specification, chip characterization, validation and test development.
  • Specifying and implementing dedicated IC blocks and digital or analog interfaces for effective wafer or module-level testing (design for test).
  • Potentially establishing new simulation tools or processes to accelerate the design and simulation of complex mixed-signal ICs and enhance ASIC reliability.

Formal Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics and Photonics, Telecommunications, or Embedded Systems, coupled with several years of demonstrated experience. You should have profound expertise in analog circuit design at both schematic and layout levels, along with knowledge of ASIC simulation and verification methods and their implementation during the full development cycle. Expertise in optical detectors, particularly integrated optical detectors, is also required.

Required and Desired Skills:

  • Expertise in all steps of a complete analog mixed-signal ASIC design cycle, including but not limited to (mandatory):
  • Definition of architecture and specification of ASICs
  • Schematic development, including simulation and modeling
  • Layout design, including verification (DRC, LVS)
  • Integration of analog and digital blocks into mixed-signal designs
  • Parasitic extraction and performance verification
  • Management of the full ASIC design cycle, including specification, definition, fabrication, characterization, qualification, and testing
  • In-depth knowledge of modern analog integrated circuit design and the techniques and tools used for analog and mixed-signal design (required).
  • Knowledge of advanced simulation techniques (e.g., modeling) (required).
  • An independent, precise working style and the willingness to communicate and collaborate closely with the ASIC design team, higher-level product teams, customers, and suppliers (mandatory).
  • Knowledge of digital design and layout (front-end and back-end) (desired).
  • Knowledge in Design for Testability (DFT) (desired).
  • Willingness to take responsibility for complex ASIC designs and the necessary communication with all stakeholders during the IC lifecycle.
  • Ability to integrate into cross-functional and multi-location teams.
  • Wide interest in interdisciplinary work interfacing with sensors, electronics, optics, fiber technology, communication, and medical systems.
  • English communication skills, both verbal and written, are mandatory. A willingness to learn and communicate in German is also expected.

An ideal profile would also include:

  • Experience in applying measurement equipment up to 10GHz
  • Experience in measurement setups, PCB design and testing
  • In-depth expertise in the semiconductor physics of integrated optical detectors like SiPMs, APDs and PIN photodiodes
