Microsoft's Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) seeks an experienced Immigration Specialist (Paralegal) for its U.S. Immigration Team. This role involves providing legal and strategic immigration counsel to HR and business groups, ensuring compliance, and supporting the needs of foreign national employees and their families. Responsibilities include daily engagement with visa-dependent employees, developing creative immigration solutions, leading employee engagement initiatives, providing advice on daily immigration operations, collaborating with attorneys, managing high-volume inquiries, developing training programs, managing communication channels, educating employees about the immigration process, representing the team externally, and participating in continuous improvement projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, collaboration abilities, and experience with employment-based immigration (IV and NIV filings) in a fast-paced environment.

Overview

Microsoft Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) is seeking an experienced Immigration Specialist (Paralegal) to join our U.S. Immigration Team. The U.S. Immigration Team provides legal and strategic U.S. immigration counsel to HR and Microsoft business groups, drives immigration compliance, and supports the immigration needs of foreign national employees and their families.  

As a U.S. Immigration Specialist, you will be dedicated to employee engagement, solving complex problems, and helping our businesses achieve their strategic goals by attracting top talent to Microsoft. 

This opportunity will allow you to apply creative legal thinking to solve case-specific immigration issues while identifying opportunities to develop small and large-scale programs.  

Who are we looking for?

  • Someone who has the ability to identify and escalate issues appropriately while proposing possible solutions. 
  • Experience managing and prioritizing high volumes of inquiries from foreign nationals, clients, and teammates. 
  • Ability to work independently while also being a strong collaborator with diverse internal groups, teams, divisions, and cultures. 
  • Ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations. 
  • Strong collaboration and partnership skills, effectively working as a member of a legal services team.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience of employment-based immigration experience (IV and NIV filings) in a fast-paced, high-volume, team-oriented environment OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience of employment-based immigration experience (IV and NIV filings) in a fast-paced, high-volume, team-oriented environment. 

Paralegal IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $64,700 - $119,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $89,000 - $134,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Engage daily with visa-dependent employees, fostering positive business interactions and long-term relationships with Microsoft's employees, management, and HR. 
  • Develop creative immigration solutions and alternatives, enabling Microsoft’s visa-dependent population to achieve business objectives. 
  • Lead various employee engagement initiatives to enhance the experience and interactions of employees, managers, and the company with the U.S. Immigration Team. 
  • Provide advice on daily immigration operations, proactively assessing and planning for regulatory changes that may impact the program and/or visa-dependent employees. 
  • Collaborate with immigration attorneys and business program managers to resolve complex immigration and process issues. 
  • Manage high volumes of inquiries from foreign nationals, clients, and teammates, ensuring timely and accurate responses. 
  • Develop and implement training programs for contingent staff to streamline processes and reduce escalations. 
  • Manage communication channels, organize engagement events, maintain internal platforms, and analyze employee feedback to improve employee experience. 
  • Educate employees about the immigration process from hire to green card approval, ensuring compliance with regulatory changes. 
  • Represent the team in external engagements, supporting policy work and contributing to the development of innovative immigration solutions. 
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects, refining templates, updating playbooks, and leveraging AI to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
