Job Description

You will be creating value for Philips businesses in the Connected care segment, with the focus on healthcare informatics and medical monitoring fields, by conducting prior art searches, providing IP, technology, competitor, and market analysis. You will support IP Counsels and IP Business partners from the corresponding businesses in protecting new technical developments and innovations. The role involves executing novelty and validity searches, performing third-party patent assessments for IP risk clearance, and adapting analysis approaches to evolving business needs. You will also contribute to process improvement and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate IP strategies with business objectives.

Must Have:
  • Executing novelty searches on invention disclosures and validity searches on Philips’ and third-party patents.
  • Performing third-party patents assessment in the context of IP risk clearance for planned product launches.
  • Practicing responsibility for end-to-end processing of the IP Analysis (IPA) tasks for selected assignments.
  • Adapting to evolving business needs by tailoring IP analysis approaches and prioritizing tasks.
  • Realizing IPA projects about developing or improving search and analysis methods, process efficiencies.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the IPA process by collecting and sharing best practice information.
  • Keeping up to date with business, market, technology, and analysis developments.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to advise on patent landscapes, competitive positioning and integrate IP strategies.
  • Bachelor level degree in science (preferably computer science) or engineering.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • At least 5 years of experience in handling IP Analysis tasks.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in performing third-party patents assessment in the context of IP risk clearance.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial, business-oriented working attitude.
  • Proven understanding of the commercial value of IP.
  • Strong analytical and organization skills.
  • Confidence and communication skills to operate at all levels.

Roles and Responsibilities

You will be creating value for Philips businesses in the Connected care segment, with the focus on healthcare informatics and medical monitoring fields, by conducting prior art searches, providing IP, technology, competitor, and market analysis. You will support IP Counsels and IP Business partners from the corresponding businesses in protecting new technical developments and innovations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Executing novelty searches on invention disclosures as well as validity searches on Philips’ and third-party patents.
  • Performing third-party patents assessment in the context of IP risk clearance for planned product launches, including supporting in the identification of potential IP risks related to new product developments and business expansions.
  • For the selected assignments, beyond prior art search and IP risk clearance, practicing responsibility for end to end processing of the IP Analysis (IPA) tasks. This includes e.g. consulting the requester to understand business needs, collecting the data, analyzing the information and reporting in various formats in order to advise the IP&S and/or Philips business with IP insights.
  • Adapting to evolving business needs by tailoring IP analysis approaches and prioritizing tasks in response to dynamic conditions.
  • Realizing IPA projects about e.g. developing or improving search and analysis methods, process efficiencies etc., either independently, by participating in a team with colleagues or by leading a team of colleagues.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the IPA process, by collecting and sharing best practice information regarding data sources, methods and tools.
  • Keeping up to date with business, market, technology, analysis developments etc. to support the IP&S business pro-actively.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to advise internal stakeholders on patent landscapes, competitive positioning etc. and to integrate IP strategies with broader business objectives.

You are a part of

In this role you will operate within Philips IP Analysis team residing in India, Bangalore. In IP&S this team provides a full range of information and analysis services, like patent searches, IP and technology landscapes, trademark searches and IP Intelligence. The various activities are closely linked together and benefit from mutual competencies to ensure maximum added value to the business. The team of colleagues of different nationalities is based in Eindhoven, Shanghai and Bangalore. Their background ranges from economists to engineers and scientists.

We are looking for an experienced IP analyst with

  • Bachelor level degree in science (preferably computer science) or engineering;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English is a must;
  • At least 5 years of experience in handling IP Analysis tasks, amongst which at least 2 years’ experience in performing third-party patents assessment in the context of IP risk clearance;
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial, business-oriented working attitude and a proven understanding of the commercial value of IP;
  • Strong analytical and organization skills;
  • The confidence and communication skills to operate at all levels both internally and externally.
