This role contributes to user research, visual design, and storytelling efforts driving innovation. Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field
  • 0-3 years of experience in a design role
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, CAD modeling, and storytelling skills
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., Rhino3D, SolidWorks) and rendering software (e.g., KeyShot)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Ability to ideate, sketch concepts, storyboard processes, and map user flows
  • Exposure to user-centered design methods
  • Strong communication skills and systems-thinking mindset
Good to have:
  • Experience with digital tools like Figma
  • Familiarity with video and motion tools (Premiere Pro, After Effects)
  • Willingness to participate in field and remote research
  • Interest or experience in transportation, industrial systems, or emerging technologies

What do we want to know about you?

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field
  • 0-3 years of experience in a design role (internships, co-ops, or academic projects welcome)
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong visual design, CAD modeling, and storytelling skills
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., Rhino3D, SolidWorks) and rendering software (e.g., KeyShot)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and digital tools like Figma. Familiarity with video and motion tools such as Premiere Pro and After Effects is a strong plus
  • Ability to quickly ideate and sketch concepts, storyboard processes, and map out user flows
  • Exposure to user-centered design methods and a willingness to participate in both field and remote research
  • Highly motivated, curious, and open-minded with a desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced R&D environment
  • Strong communication skills and a systems-thinking mindset-able to connect the dots between user needs, technical constraints, and business goals
  • Interest or experience in transportation, industrial systems, or emerging technologies is a plus

What will your typical day look like?

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support user research activities by helping plan, conduct, and document field visits, remote interviews, and workshops
  • Assist in synthesizing research findings into actionable insights that inform concept direction
  • Develop CAD models and visual concepts that support early-stage product development and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with engineers, vendors, and senior designers to refine concepts and support prototyping—both digital and physical
  • Create compelling visual communication assets including storyboards, animations, videos, and presentation materials
  • Contribute to messaging frameworks and content for microsites, trade show displays, internal playbooks, and social posts
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and design reviews, working closely with the design manager and other team members to support program goals
  • Bring a creative, resourceful approach to prototyping at various scales, from mockups to immersive demos

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$54,700.00-$72,500.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
