Ansys Government Initiatives is seeking a passionate, self-starting, team-oriented software engineer for its Programs and Solutions team. This role focuses on crafting software to integrate and automate Ansys’ commercial simulation tools, meeting specific customer requirements for design, engineering, and operations in the aerospace and defense market. The Lead R&D Engineer will support the SWARM Solution, providing the United States Space Force with modern space simulation, analysis, test, and training software. The engineer will collaborate to ensure secure software development, testing, and release, specifically ensuring compliance with Space Force DevSecOps requirements and the Air Force Risk Management Framework (RMF) for software accreditation and deployment.
Must have:
  • Perform development activities including the implementation of DevSecOps methodologies into a modernized software development environment
  • Employ DevSecOps and modern software development best practices and maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring
  • Perform analysis of the DevSecOps environment for technical and process improvements
  • Support the entire Software Development Lifecycle with an emphasis on build, test and release management via automation
  • Perform critical troubleshooting of interruptions/failures in the DevSecOps pipeline, suggests and or implements fixes
  • Work with the development team to write required unit tests, rearchitect Git Repos and associated software containers to meet RMF requirements
  • BS Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with 5 years of experience, MS with 3 years of experience, or PhD with one year of experience
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering practices and product development
  • Programming experience in Python, C#, Java, Typescript
  • Willing and able to work with both Windows and Linux environments
  • Strong understanding of build management and continuous integration software
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with framework technologies (React, Angular, Apache Kafka)
Good to have:
  • Preferred education and years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+8, MS+6, or PhD+4
  • Strong programming and scripting aptitude (Python, PowerShell, C++, C#, Java, Typescript)
  • Experience developing software integrations with mission engineering tools (Ansys STK, AFSIM, etc.) or Ansys software tools
  • Experience with DoD accreditation frameworks like Air Force RMF
  • Experience with CI/CD practices and version control tools
  • Understanding of satellite operations, mission design, or orbit determination concepts
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
  • Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance (or the ability and willingness to obtain a clearance)

Summary / Role Purpose

Ansys Government Initiatives is looking for a passionate, self-starting, team-oriented software engineer to join our Programs and Solutions team. The team’s primary emphasis lies in crafting software integrating and automating Ansys’ commercial simulation software tools to meet specific customer requirements for design, engineering, and operations in the aerospace and defense market. The Lead R&D Engineer will be in support of ongoing SWARM Solution work providing the United States Space Force with modern space simulation, analysis, test and training software. In this role, the Lead R&D Engineer will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to ensure software applications are securely developed, tested and released. More specifically this role will work with the existing SWARM development team to ensure the code complies with Space Force DevSecOps requirements associated with the Air Force Risk Management Framework (RMF) for software accreditation and deployment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs development activities including the implementation of DevSecOps methodologies into a modernized software development environment
  • Employs DevSecOps and modern software development best practices and maintains them through technical reviews and mentoring
  • Performs analysis of the DevSecOps environment for technical and process improvements (e.g., integration of security measures, faster security and software updates, improved automation, reduced glitches, and software failures, etc.)
  • Supports the entire Software Development Lifecycle with an emphasis on build, test and release management via automation
  • Performs critical troubleshooting of interruptions/failures in the DevSecOps pipeline, suggests and or implements fixes.
  • Works under the general supervision of a Solutions Development manager
  • Will work with the development team to write required unit tests, rearchitect Git Repos and associated software containers to meet RMF requirements
  • Track and document positive business outcomes from delivered Services work
  • Expand your technical knowledge, learn relevant Ansys products, contribute to internal company knowledge sharing initiatives. Embrace the culture of codifying and creating best practices within a technical discipline and across disciplines

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • BS Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with 5 years of experience, MS with 3 years of experience, or PhD with one year of experience
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering practices and product development, experience with building solutions using simulation technology and deploying those solutions within customers’ engineering workflows
  • Programming experience in Python, C#, Java, Typescript
  • Willing and able to work with both Windows and Linux environments
  • Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills, fluent in writing and speaking English
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of build management and continuous integration software
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with framework technologies (React, Angular, Apache Kafka)

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
