JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Lead Technical Artist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical art direction and pipeline of our game development projects. You’ll lead a team of technical artists, collaborate closely with art and engineering leadership, and ensure that our tools, workflows, and asset integration processes are efficient, scalable, and aligned with the creative vision. This is a strategic and hands-on role for someone passionate about empowering teams and driving innovation in game production.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Leadership
- Architect and oversee the production pipeline, ensuring seamless asset flow from concept to implementation.
- Identify bottlenecks and proactively implement scalable solutions across multiple projects.
Tool Development & Innovation
- Lead the design and development of custom tools and scripts to automate workflows and improve productivity.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies and techniques to future-proof the pipeline.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
- Act as the primary liaison between art, UI, design and engineering teams.
- Translate creative needs into technical solutions and ensure smooth communication across departments.
Asset Oversight
- Supervise asset integration and optimization, ensuring consistency, performance, and version control.
- Define best practices for asset management and enforce technical standards.
Process Optimization
- Continuously assess and refine workflows to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
- Mentor team members in technical best practices and pipeline usage.
Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor a team of technical artists, fostering growth and collaboration.
- Provide guidance, performance feedback, and support career development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Industry Experience
- Proven experience in video or mobile game development, with a strong portfolio of shipped titles.
- Prior leadership or mentorship experience in a technical art role.
Technical Proficiency
- Expert in Python, MEL, or similar scripting languages.
- Deep understanding of production pipelines and tools such as Maya, Houdini, Unreal Engine, or Unity.
Communication & Leadership
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to guide teams and influence cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Problem-Solving & Innovation
- Strong analytical skills and a proactive mindset for solving production challenges.
- Passion for improving workflows and supporting creative excellence.
