Job Description

As a Level Designer at Star Citizen, you will be part of the Design team, creating cutting-edge gameplay and level content within a multiplayer online space sim. You will implement mission flow and logic, assist in creating environments with the Art Environment team, contribute to design discussions, and balance content based on playtesting. This role involves working with a diverse team and pushing the boundaries of game design.
Must have:
  • Knowledge of modern game engines and visual scripting
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
  • Pro-active with good organisation and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of Game and Level Design philosophies
  • Experience developing levels with a multiplayer focus

What does a Level Designer at CIG do?

  • Design and implement gameplay content that pushes the boundaries and quality for Star Citizen.
  • Implementation of mission flow and logic in our proprietary engine and visual scripting software.
  • Assist in the creation of incredibly realistic and breath-taking environments by working closely with the Art Environment team and blocking out spaces for gameplay.
  • Contribute to design discussions and assist in solving various design challenges that strive for quality above all else.
  • Implementation of feedback from Design leads and balancing content based on playtesting.

What do we expect from a Level Designer?

  • Demonstratable knowledge of modern game engines (such as Unreal Engine 4/5, CryEngine or Unity) with examples of personal/professional work or group projects showcasing visual scripting and layouts.
  • Able to easily work with others in a friendly and positive environment, communicating vision between departments and the ability to give/receive feedback willingly.
  • Highly pro-active with good organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent understanding of Game and Level Design philosophies, including spatial design.
  • Experience developing levels with a multiplayer focus in an open world or MMO environment.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, at times unsupervised whilst delivering consistently high-quality standards.
  • A passion to make incredible games.

About The Company

Cloud Imperium Games is a new kind of independent studio dedicated to delivering AAA experiences outside the established publisher system, founded by Chris Roberts, creator of the best selling Wing Commander and Freelancer series, Cloud Imperium is currently developing Star Citizen, a record-shattering crowd funded title that combines classic space sim gameplay with Hollywood-caliber visuals.
