Job Description

Wabtec Corporation is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to drive execution on projects related to standardization, customer requirements, automation/innovation, product cost, and delivery. This role involves developing cost-out strategies, productivity improvements through design, process control, time study, and safety improvements. The engineer will lead standardization efforts, including SOPs, customer work scopes, processes, tooling, and automation investments, working collaboratively with quality, operations, and lean functions to facilitate cost reductions. Responsibilities include VA/VE, SOP updates, equipment and BOM/MES updates, new work scope implementation, time studies, data collection, operator training, and facilitating make vs. buy decisions. The role also involves creating multi-year investment plans and assessing process, capacity, and facility gaps for commercial/NPI opportunities.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or Associate's with 2-5 years manufacturing experience.
  • Develop cost-out strategies and productivity improvements.
  • Lead standardization efforts (SOPs, automation).
  • Execute VA/VE, SOP updates, BOM/MES updates.
  • Create multi-year investment plans.
  • Assess process/capacity gaps.

Who will you be working with?

The Manufacturing Engineer coordinates with the cross-functional Operations team to drive execution on projects related to standardization, customer requirements, automation/innovation, product cost and delivery across the organization.

How will you make a difference?

  • Develop cost-out strategies and productivity improvements through design, process control, time study, and safety improvements. 
  • Lead efforts to drive standardization specifically focused on SOPs, customer work scopes, processes, tooling, and future automation/innovation investments. Work cross-functionally with local quality, operations, manufacturing variance, lean, and shop support functions to create strategy, align resources, and facilitate cost reductions.
  • Be responsible for the execution of the following directly or in coordination with other functions: VA/VE, SOP updates, equipment, BOM/MES updates, new work scope implementation, time studies, data collection, and operator training. Facilitate make vs. buy decisions in an assembly-focused operation.
  • Create multi-year investment plans aligned with the overall vision and strategy.
  • Assess proposed commercial / NPI opportunities for process, capacity, and facility gaps. Communicate and work with a cross-functional team to drive closure on each item, including owning a portion of the actions.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through observation, benchmarking, and cross-functional activities across EHS, reliability, quality, and delivery.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university or an associate’s degree with a minimum of 2-5 years of manufacturing experience or equivalent

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or a related field
  • Prior experience with detailed project management and strategy development.
  • Strong knowledge of product structures, bills of material, and MES systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in multiple modes: shop floor hands-on, tactical project execution, and strategy development.
  • A self-starter who takes the initiative to identify and implement new ideas
  • Adds positive presence to the team and culture
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Excellent written / oral communication skills, influencing, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical / problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams, including production and non-production personnel

What will your typical day look like?

  • Contract Requirements Review
    • Verify site's capability to comply with requirements
    • Identify gaps in equipment, processes, or materials
    • Drive solutions to close gaps before established due dates
    • Review cost improvement opportunities
  • Manage new process development
    • New SOP Development or Revisions
    • Oversight of equipment installation
    • Operator training on Workscope Details
    • Time Studies
    • BOM update requests
  • Recommend business cases for the procurement of capital expense funds for tools and equipment
  • System Improvements
    • Support product development and resolution improvements

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$54,700.00-$72,500.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
