Job Description

The Medical Assistant supports the care team by providing direct member care and assisting with clinical interventions. Responsibilities include pre-visit preparation such as obtaining member consents and rooming, procedural assistance, and post-visit follow-up like coordinating medical record requests and diagnostic tests. The role also supports quality and preventative health efforts and may assist with operations, including inventory. This position goes above and beyond typical Medical Assistant duties, meeting members in their communities. Key tasks include scheduling, confirming, and rescheduling appointments, managing hard-to-reach members, coordinating follow-up visits and transportation, assisting providers during visits, collecting external provider information, and performing pre-visit tasks. Direct patient care involves checking in members, taking vitals and medical history, documenting clinical information, drawing labs, administering vaccines, performing EKGs, and assisting with other procedures in various community settings. Post-visit duties include completing workflows, coordinating follow-up care, communicating normal test results, and addressing member needs promptly. Operational support involves managing daily clinic tasks, using healthcare platforms, participating in huddles, and training new Medical Assistants.
Must have:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of clinical operations experience
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy, EKG, vaccine administration
  • Comfortable with manual/digital blood pressure
  • Comfortable with telemedicine/virtual care platforms
  • Experienced with scheduling platforms and EHR systems
  • Knowledgeable in Trauma-Informed Care
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Job Description:

The Medical Assistant supports the care team’s delivery of clinical interventions in multiple ways, including direct member care. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for pre-visit preparation (e.g., getting member consents, rooming), procedural assistance and post-visit follow-up (e.g., care coordination for medical record requests, diagnostic tests, specialty referrals). Other responsibilities include support of quality and preventative health efforts, and the role may assist with operations, including inventory support.

This role is not a typical Medical Assistant role, because at Cityblock we go above and beyond to meet our members where they are at.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Engagement & Scheduling: Schedule, confirm, and reschedule appointments; manage hard-to-reach members; and coordinate follow-up visits and transportation.

  • Clinical Support & Intake: Assist providers during visits, collect external provider information, and perform pre-visit tasks including chart preparation and medical record requests.

  • Direct Patient Care: Check-in and room members, obtain vitals and medical history, complete clinical documentation, draw labs, administer vaccines, perform EKGs, and assist with other procedures. Provide care in various community settings (home, SNF, shelter, hospital).

  • Post-Visit & Follow-Up: Complete post-visit workflows, coordinate follow-up care (e.g., diagnostic tests, referrals), communicate normal test results, and address member needs promptly.

  • Operational Support: Manage daily clinic tasks, utilize healthcare platforms for documentation and communication, participate in morning huddles, and assist with training new Medical Assistants.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Registered and/or Certified Preferred

  • 3+ years of clinical operations experience (Pediatrics, Urgent Care, or Primary Care preferred).

  • Proficiency in phlebotomy, EKG, and vaccine administration.

  • Comfortable with manual and digital blood pressure

  • Comfortable with telemedicine and virtual care platforms, demonstrating strong telephone and text etiquette.

  • Experienced with scheduling platforms and electronic health record (EHR) systems for accurate documentation and data collection.

  • Knowledgeable in Trauma-Informed Care principles.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable to change, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Possesses a growth mindset and ability to offer creative solutions to optimize patient care.

We take into account an individual’s qualifications, skillset, and experience in determining final salary. This role is eligible for health insurance, life insurance, retirement benefits, participation in the company’s equity program, paid time off, including vacation and sick leave. The actual offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate’s qualifications, years of experience, skillset, and geographic location. The expected salary range for this position is: 

$21.00 - $24.00 Hourly
