Extreme Networks is a global networking leader seeking a skilled Real Time Embedded Software Developer to join their team focused on cutting-edge Wi-Fi solutions. The role involves developing applications on Linux OS with a focus on real-time embedded programming and Wireless LAN applications. Responsibilities include maintaining existing products, providing customer support, debugging embedded Linux platforms, designing, implementing, testing, and enhancing complex software modules. The developer will also review technical documentation, take ownership of software modules, provide estimates, write design documents, and participate in design and code reviews, mentoring junior developers. Must have:
- Strong software development background in real-time embedded systems and data communication
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
- Positive attitude, team player
- Strong knowledge of real-time embedded Linux OS
- Strong knowledge of Wi-Fi protocols (802.11)
- Strong knowledge of C, C++ programming languages
- Extensive experience developing real-time embedded applications under Linux
- Good working experience developing multi-threaded applications for Linux
- Knowledge of networking technologies and concepts (LAN switching, routing, Ethernet, IP)
Good to have:
- Familiarity with IEEE standards for Wi-Fi and LAN
- Experience working with RF devices and test equipment (signal generators, spectrum analyzers)

Scope:
- As a skilled Real Time Embedded Software Developer, you will become an integral part of a team involved in the development and sustaining support of the leading-edge Wi-Fi solutions. You will be responsible for the design and development of applications running on Linux OS with focus on the real time embedded programming and Wireless LAN application. Based in our Thornhill, Toronto office, the main responsibilities and key points of the role are:
- Participate in maintaining the existing products and provide engineering support to the customer.
- Strong debug and troubleshooting skill of the embedded Linux platform.
- Also participate in the design, implementation, testing, maintenance, enhancement, and support of complex software modules.
- Actively participate to the specifications and other technical documentation reviews to determine software engineering requirements.
- Take ownership of software modules, provide work estimates, write all the necessary design documents, and implement or enhance them.
- Write and execute the component, module, subsystem, and system test procedures.
- Participate in design, code reviews, and provide feedback to your peers, mentor junior developers
Requirements:
- Must have strong technical background in software development, with a focus on real time embedded system and data communication.
- Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
- Solid verbal and written communications skills.
- Positive attitude, team player.
- Strong knowledge of real time embedded Linux operating system.
- Strong knowledge of Wi-Fi protocols. i.e. 802.11.
- Strong knowledge of C, C++ programming language.
- Extensive experience developing real time embedded application under Linux.
- Good working experience developing multi-threaded applications for Linux Knowledge of networking technologies and concepts, LAN switching, routing, Ethernet, and IP.
- Familiar with IEEE standards for Wi-Fi and LAN is an asset.
Desired Skills/Experience:
- Experience working with RF device and test equipment such as signal generators and spectrum analyzer.
$95,000 - $115,000 a year
