Job Description

People Can Fly is seeking a Senior AI Programmer for Project Echo. This role involves proposing, implementing, and owning AI-related tasks and features, collaborating on shared components, and ensuring performance. Key responsibilities include working with designers on NPC behaviors, creating tools, testing, debugging, and maintaining Unreal Engine AI frameworks. The role also involves contributing to the company-wide AI codebase and participating in code reviews, requiring strong C++ and Unreal Engine skills.
Good To Have:

Must Have:
  • Propose, implement and own tasks and features in a timely fashion.
  • Provide regular updates to the production.
  • Collaborate with PCF Framework to integrate and develop shared components.
  • Consider the performance of the work.
  • Breakdown tasks, update progress, ask questions, and raise issues.
  • Work closely with Principal and project Architect to implement high quality features and code.
  • Proactively participate in code reviews.
  • Work across multiple disciplines on non-player character behaviors.
  • Work closely with the design team and iterate on game features.
  • Create dedicated tools and features.
  • Test, debug, profile and optimize implementations.
  • Maintain and extend existing Unreal Engine AI framework and tools.
  • Design, implement into engine and maintain new AI features.
  • Track work in production systems.
  • Work on improvements to the company-wide AI codebase.
  • 6+ years experience working in console / PC games.
  • Involved in the production cycle of at least 1 title.
  • Excellent C++ programming skills.
  • Good knowledge of Source Control and Code Review tools (Swarm, Perforce, Git).
  • Good knowledge of Project Management Software (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Strong math background (3D math, matrices, linear algebra).
  • Understanding of physics and classical mechanics.
  • Good understanding of AI algorithms and techniques used in games.
  • Experience with performance measurement and optimization.
  • Experience in programming gamedev AI topics like movement, navigation or decision-making logic.
  • Experience with multi-threading.
  • Good Unreal Engine knowledge.

Job Description

Core

  • Propose, implement and own tasks and features in a timely fashion.
  • Provide regular updates to the production.
  • Collaborating with PCF Framework to integrate and develop shared components, and augment stability/features of shared modules.
  • Consider the performance of the work that you do.
  • Breakdown your own tasks, update your progress, ask questions and raise issues to relevant stakeholders as well as proposing solutions when needed.
  • Work closely with Principal and project Architect to implement high quality features and code, proactively identify and address risk with the team.
  • Proactively participate in code reviews to share knowledge and learn from other team members.
  • Occasionally support Lead in recruitment projects with HR collaboration.
  • Stay informed of best practices and technical solutions used at the company.
  • Work with QA teams to define testing requirements for new and existing features.

AI

  • Work across multiple disciplines on the behaviors of a large variety of non-player characters.
  • Work closely with the design team and iterate with them game features gathering feedback from iterations.
  • Create dedicated tools and features.
  • Test, debug, profile and optimize implementations.
  • Maintain and extend the existing Unreal Engine AI framework and tools.
  • Design, implement into engine and maintain new AI features.
  • Track work in production systems.
  • Work on improvements to the company wide AI codebase.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years experience working in console / PC games.
  • Involved in the production cycle of at least 1 title.
  • Excellent primary programming language skills (C++).
  • Good knowledge of Source Control and Code Review tools (Swarm, Perforce, Git, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of Project Management Software (JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Strong math background (3d math, matrices, linear algebra).
  • Understanding of physics and classical mechanics.
  • Good understanding of usual algorithms and techniques used by AI teams in games.
  • Experience with performance measurement and optimization.
  • Experience in programming different gamedev AI topics like movement, navigation or decision-making logic.
  • Ability to write solid, reliable, efficient code.
  • “Game designer” like creativity to help solve gameplay problems.
  • Experience with multi-threading.
  • Good Unreal Engine knowledge.
  • Good mentoring skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
