Job Description

The Real-time Engineer develops and supports Sony Torchlight’s Virtual Production and visualization/publishing toolset, including Shotgrid integrations for Nuke, Unreal, and Maya, and render farm automations. This role focuses on API development and UI improvement, leveraging Python skills to architect a cutting-edge pipeline alongside the Pipeline Technical Director, Virtual Production Supervisor, and Producers. Good To Have:
  • After Effects, Maya, and Unreal scripting experience is a big plus.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5.

  • Experience with DaVinci Resolve.
  • Experience with Substance Painter.
  • Experience with Houdini.
Must Have:
  • Develop and support tools for visualization, motion capture, real-time rendering, virtual camera workflows, and publishing.
  • Work closely with artists and production on tool creation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Facilitate and advise on data I/O.
  • Support rendering efforts, including debugging render issues.
  • Train and support supervisors/artists with pipeline and tool usage.
  • QA internally developed tools.
  • Highly adaptable with a strong post-production background.
  • Ability to write adaptable code for changing needs and redesign products for new productions.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++ development.
  • Familiarity with filmmaking pipelines, data I/O, DCC compatibility, and color pipelines.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with Nuke, After Effects, and other DCC software.
  • Experience working in a software development team and interacting with team members, artists, and production.
  • Experience creating tools and scripts for Nuke and Deadline.
  • Solid knowledge of post-production, VFX, and Animation production and iteration processes.
  • Desire to learn, take on challenging work, and embrace new technologies.
  • Required software knowledge: Nuke, Deadline, ShotGrid, Autodesk Maya.

The Real-time Engineer is responsible for developing and supporting Sony Torchlight’s Virtual Production and visualization and publishing toolset. This can range from creating Shotgrid integrations for Nuke, Unreal, and Maya, to building render farm automations for DCCs. This engineer will be an API wizard who is dedicated to improving the User experience and UI Development. The Real-time Engineer will pull from a solid foundation in Python, as well as working alongside the Pipeline Technical Director, Virtual Production Supervisor and Producers. Together, this team will continue to architect a state-of-the-art pipeline that empowers filmmakers and artists alike with cutting-edge technical tools, and seamless user experiences.

This role is limited term up to 6 months.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support tools for visualization, motion capture, real-time rendering, virtual camera workflows and publishing Qt’s and EXRs per based on productions specifications.
  • Work closely with artists and production in all departments on tool creation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Facilitate and advise on data I/O
  • Support Rendering efforts, including debugging render issues
  • Train and support supervisors/artists with use of this pipeline and it's tools
  • QA tools being developed internally

Essential Skills:

  • Highly adaptable with a strong post-production background
  • Ability to write adaptable code for changing needs. Comfortable with redesigning deliverable products for each new production.
  • Python / C++ development skills
  • Familiarity with filmmaking pipelines, data I/O, DCC compatibility, and color pipelines.
  • Strong & proven communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with Nuke, After Effects and other DCC software
  • Experience working in a software development team and interacting graciously with all team members, including artists and production.
  • Experience creating tools and scripts for Nuke and Deadline are essential. After Effects Maya and Unreal scripting experience is a big plus
  • A solid knowledge of post-production, VFX and Animation production and its iteration process
  • A desire to learn from others, take on increasingly challenging work and a love of new and emerging technologies.
