Starcom is seeking a Senior DEI Media Planner to lead performance-media initiatives with a Diversity and Equity focus. This role involves designing data-driven, culturally resonant, and inclusive media strategies to achieve measurable business outcomes and advance inclusive representation. The planner will collaborate with creative and account teams, manage client relationships, oversee campaign performance, and provide guidance to junior planners. Attention to detail, presentation comfort, and coaching abilities are essential for success in this fast-growing agency.
Must have:

  • Collaborate with creative, account managers and other agencies across clients to ensure integrated campaign executions
  • Support senior members of the team with training, guidance and feedback for assistant and media planners
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with multicultural media vendors, publishers and community partners
  • Serve as the key person for clients and planning teams on multicultural media planning and buying best practices
  • Responsible for client relationship management, project tracking and organization
  • Responsible for day to day oversight on campaigns, with a particular focus on reporting and optimization
  • Analyze campaign performance daily, compiling/checking reports from partners and CM360 and working towards optimization
  • Gather and analyze marketing, industry, and geographic landscape research to determine how best to respond to the client’s advertising and media needs
  • Understand marketing objectives and how they translate into media
  • Oversee budget allocations across media resulting in strategic and effective media plans
  • Present plans to the client, and guide planners on development and creation of strategy and decks
  • Clearly communicate media objectives, strategies and executional guidelines to execution teams and external partners
  • Maintain strong relationships with media suppliers
  • Utilize and knowledge of syndicated media, research, and other data resources
  • Active ownership of internal and external status documents and meetings
  • Develop POVs Collecting and managing data to ensure monthly billing is accurate and on time
  • Able to work successfully within a team, owning projects and knowing when to delegate to manage a high volume client, while meeting deadlines

Overview

The Senior DEI Media Planner at Starcom will lead performance-media initiatives with a Diversity and equity focus. This role sits within the broader strategy team, ensuring that campaigns are not only data-driven but also culturally resonant, inclusive, and impactful. The Senior DEI Planner combines analytical expertise with a deep understanding of multicultural audiences to design media strategies that create measurable business outcomes while advancing inclusive representation. Attention to detail, comfort presenting, and an ability to coach are all essential. Starcom has experienced an incredible growth rate over the past years. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with creative, account managers and other agencies across clients to ensure integrated campaign executions
  • Supports senior members of the team with training, guidance and feedback for assistant and media planners
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with multicultural media vendors, publishers and community partners
  • Serves as the key person of clients and planning teams on multicultural media planning and buying best practices

  • Gathering and analyzing marketing, industry, and geographic landscape research to determine how best to respond to the client’s advertising and media needs
  • Understanding marketing objectives and how they translate into media
  • Developing an understanding of the client’s business and competitive landscape
  • Overseeing budget allocations across media resulting in strategic and effective media plans
  • Presenting plans to the client, and guiding planners on development and creation of strategy and decks
  • Clearly communicating media objectives, strategies and executional guidelines to execution teams and external partners
  • Maintaining strong relationships with media suppliers
  • Utilization and knowledge of syndicated media, research, and other data resources
  • Active ownership of internal and external status documents and meetings
  • Developing POVs Collecting and managing data to ensure monthly billing is accurate and on time

Qualifications

  • Understanding of the digital performance marketing ecosystem 2-3 years experience planning online and offline channels with emphasis on digital and performance media
  • Bachelor's degree; degree or concentration in advertising, marketing, business administration, and communications preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiation
  • Able to work successfully within a team, owning projects and knowing when to delegate to manage a high volume client, while meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Strong analytical abilities & proficiency in math
  • Ability to effectively utilize media research and reporting resources
  • Technical proficiency, particularly with media systems and MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Media Planning Tools (Vividata, GWI etc.)
  • Strong Understanding of Canadian multicultural landscape, media consumption, habits and cultural nuances
  • Knowledge of languages: Cantonese or Mandarin
