Position Summary
As a Sr Product Security Engineer at Illumina, you will contribute to the security of our medical instruments and connected software throughout the product lifecycle. This role requires a solid foundation in product security and software development, with a focus on implementing and supporting security controls in both pre-market and post-market phases. You will work closely with engineering, development, and quality teams to ensure our products meet security standards and regulatory requirements. Your contributions will help maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of Illumina’s medical devices and software solutions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with development teams to integrate secure design principles into product architecture.
- Assist in defining and implementing security requirements at the system and software levels.
- Support threat modelling activities and help identify and prioritize cybersecurity requirements.
- Participate in cybersecurity risk assessments and contribute to mitigation planning.
- Assist in executing cybersecurity testing, including vulnerability scanning and penetration testing.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of security practices within the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Help maintain documentation and evidence for regulatory compliance and audits.
- Stay current with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies relevant to medical devices.
Requirements
- Experience in application or product security, with a solid understanding of relevant technology stacks.
- Familiarity with secure software design and/or penetration testing practices.
- Ability to read and understand code and system configurations to identify potential security issues.
- Working knowledge of software development processes and secure coding practices.
- Understanding of at least two security domains (e.g., application security, network security, platform security).
- Familiarity with OWASP Top 10 and common software vulnerabilities.
- Experience with one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, Java).
- Exposure to security tools such as nMap, Wireshark, Kali Linux, or OpenVAS.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., medical devices, healthcare, automotive) is a plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Security certifications such as CISSP, CSSLP, OSCP, or similar are a plus.
