Job Description

The Senior Technical Artist at Ubisoft Shanghai will define, prepare, and adapt graphic tools, contributing to 3D production application selection and workflow establishment. Responsibilities include collaborating with world artists and level designers on technical issues, implementing performance optimizations, testing the engine, creating technical prototypes and benchmarks, and automating art pipelines. They'll also develop tools (e.g., 3DS Max), provide technical assistance to the art team, create documentation, and share best practices. The role involves working with programming teams on technical art features and optimizing the integration of art assets into the game engine.
Must have:
  • College/Bachelor's degree
  • Strong gamer culture
  • Bilingual (Chinese/English)
  • Real-time rendering knowledge
  • Analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Python/Maxscript knowledge
  • Data safety knowledge (Perforce etc.)
Good to have:
  • Houdini experience
  • C# / C++ knowledge
  • Procedural software knowledge (Houdini, Speedtree etc.)
  • Full digital art pipeline experience
  • Shading/Lighting/SFX knowledge

Job Description

Summary

• The incumbent will determine, prepare and adapt the graphic tools. Whenever possible, he/she will take part in selecting the 3d production applications and establish the work methods. The incumbent will train the artists on methods and tools and supervise the integration of art assets in the game engine.

Responsibilities:

· Working with world artists and level designer on daily technical issue.

· Implementing optimizations and monitoring the performance of the game;

· Test the engine, request enhancements, verify all engine-related documents and modify or draft new documents whenever necessary

· Identifying and implementing art-pipeline optimizations and automatizing;

· Develop or determine tools (e.g. 3DS Max, etc.) and methods to enhance and facilitate work of the graphics team;

· Creating technical prototype;

· Creating technical benchmarks to be used in production;

· Implementing technical art features with the help of the programming team;

· Offering technical assistance to the art team in day-by-day production issues;

· Creating and maintaining technical documentation;

· Sharing with the other artists ’best practices and new tools.

Qualifications

Requirements:

· At least College or Bachelor’s degree;

· Strong Gamer Culture and interest in videogame development;

· Good communication skills in both Chinese and English (spoken and written);

· Basic knowledge of real-time rendering challenges and techniques;

· Analytical mind and good problem-solving skills;

· Any relevant experience with game editors and engines is considered a plus;

· Knowledge of Python/Max-script is strong plus (also good to knows other language eg: c#/c++)

· Knowledge of Procedural software is a strong plus (e.g. Houdini/Speedtree/worldmachine/Substance Design)

· Knowledge of data safety options (e.g. Perforce, VSS, Alienbrain);

· Knowledge and Interest in tech-art areas is also considered a plus (like Shading, Lighting, SFX, etc.)

Nice to Have

· Houdini experience for large scale world creation

· Knowledge of Code language is considered a plus (e.g. c++)

· Experience in a full digital art content creation pipeline (high and low-poly modelling, unwrapping, baking, texturing, level art) is very appreciated
