The Senior Technical Product Manager for Xbox at Microsoft plays a crucial role in delivering scalable software platforms for players and developers. This involves overseeing the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to launch, for drivers, firmware, and software components of the Xbox operating system. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for gaming and consumer products.

Overview

Team Xbox is at the forefront of delivering the industry’s best platform and experiences for both players and game developers. We work closely with industry leaders across hardware, software, firmware, services and our 1st and 3rd party game development partners to ensure Microsoft’s platforms are designed and optimized to meet the needs of our most passionate fans, whether they choose to play on the Xbox console, their Windows PC , laptop handheld, TVs or mobile devices.  

The Xbox Platform team mission is to lead the Operating System (OS) & Platform for the next generation of gaming across a broad portfolio of devices. As a Senior Technical Product Manager, you will deliver scalable software platform for players and developers.  

The Xbox Operating System is a platform that seamlessly integrates hardware and software components and services. Its architecture includes memory, power and display management, user storage, networking, Bluetooth, quick resume, smart delivery, app integration, mod support and comprehensive updates. These components are specifically designed to provide game developers with a robust platform and API set, enabling them to create immersive and high-quality gaming experiences In this role, you will be involved in enhancing these components to support next-generation gaming technologies, optimizing performance, and ensuring seamless integration with new hardware innovations, while adhering to the highest standards of operational excellence. 

You will work across player & developer experiences, commerce, business, and platform to deliver cross-functional features and programs that customers love. You will also be able to leverage customer-first and product leadership as well as technical excellence to meet and exceed customer needs.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems AND 5+ years’ experience in technical product/service/project/program management or software development managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects, OR equivalent experience. 
  • Technical knowledge & understanding of operating systems, platforms, and integration across platform and devices/experiences  
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Advanced English level. 
  • Enthusiastic, attention to detail, results oriented, organized, motivated and self-driven. 
  • Self-starter who not only deals well with, but thrives in, ambiguity. 
  • Drive to innovate and solve complex problems while retaining focus on maintaining a profitable business. 
  • Strong analytical ability and data driven decision making 

 

Preferred: 

  • 7+ years’ experience in product/service/project/program management or software development managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects, OR equivalent experience. 
  • Experience with a full shipping cycle of gaming focused products (e.g. Games, Xbox, Playstation, Steam, etc.) 
  • Experience with game development, including middleware, performance optimizations and  hardware acceleration  
  • Deep passion for consumer products, gaming or the entertainment business. 
  • Thrive in high-ambiguity, fast-paced settings, with the agility to jump between projects.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end product development process, from concept to launch, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of drivers, firmware, and software components and services of the operating system 
  • Utilize strong technical knowledge to make informed decisions about product design, architecture, and implementation, particularly in relation to Xbox OS, platform and services.   
  • Make and communicate technical and experiential design tradeoffs to lay out a path for achieving our vision  
  • Be at the heart of defining, organizing, and driving our overall strategy for current and future gaming products, platforms, and experiences. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the platform aligns with overall product strategy and user needs. 
  • Balance our in-market product health and performance with the development of our long-term product vision and roadmap 
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders on project progress, potential risks, and mitigation strategies. 
  • Create concise specs that are grounded in technical feasibility, player and developer requirements, and user delight. 
  • Actively seek out gaps and opportunities for excellence and optimizations in current features & processes.
