Job Description

Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Studio Builder Tools team. This role involves leading an engineering team focused on game development tools and generative AI features within Roblox Studio, a collaborative IDE used by hundreds of thousands of developers. You will build best-in-class developer-facing tools using C++ and Lua, create reusable tooling frameworks, improve developer workflows, and collaborate with product managers, designers, and internal teams. The position requires ownership of projects from start to finish, codebase maintenance, and automated testing. The ideal candidate is passionate about end-user experience, can mentor engineers, guide projects, and is proficient in profiling and optimization.

You will lead an engineering and cross-functional team in charge of game development tools and generative AI features in Roblox Studio

Roblox Studio is a collaborative cross-platform IDE where all Roblox experiences are created. Together with the team, you’ll work on the features used by hundreds of thousands of Roblox developers every day.

As a Senior Engineer in the Builder Tools team, you’ll work on tools and reusable tooling frameworks for Roblox Studio, a collaborative IDE for making Roblox games. The products of your work will be used daily by hundreds of thousands of Roblox developers worldwide. 

You Will:

  • Create best-in-class developer-facing game development tools using C++ and Lua
  • Create reusable tooling frameworks to be used both in Roblox Studio and within Roblox games
  • Improve the workflows of Roblox community developers
  • Work closely with Product Managers and Designers to ensure that the product embodies the shared vision
  • Collaborate with numerous internal teams to help build the world's best user-generated gaming platform
  • Take ownership of projects throughout their full life cycles 
  • Maintain and improve an existing codebase
  • Write and maintain automated tests

You Have:

  • Confidence in C++ programmer with 6+ years of professional experience
  • Experience in making developer-, engineer- or artist-facing tools, such as game development tooling, CADs, 3D editors, etc
  • Experience with 3D programming, familiar with linear algebra and knowledgeable with 3D game engines

You Are:

  • Obsessed with end-user experience
  • Able to write clear design specs, mentor engineers, and guide projects from beginning to end
  • Experienced with profiling and optimization
  • Test-driven: you love writing tests

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range
$238,520$289,460 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
