Job Description

The Humanities and Arts Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach Philosophy and Religion (PY-RE) courses. These courses include introductory, intermediate, and advanced seminars. The program has strengths in social justice, environmental philosophy, underrepresented traditions, and studies of science, technology, and ethics. The department anticipates needing faculty to teach bioethics, philosophy of science, epistemology, non-Western philosophies and religions (especially Chinese traditions), and critical race theory. All adjunct applicants must be able to teach the core introductory course, Introduction to Philosophy and Religion. Successful candidates will be outstanding scholars with demonstrated teaching excellence, versatility, and the ability to bring creative and critical pedagogical approaches to the existing curriculum. A PhD in Philosophy or Religious Studies, or ABD status, is required. This posting creates an applicant pool for needs arising throughout the academic year.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Humanities and Arts Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is regularly seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach Philosophy and Religion (PY-RE) courses. PY-RE faculty teach introductory courses, intermediate thematic surveys, and advanced topic seminars. WPI’s PY-RE program has particular strengths in social justice and environmental philosophy; underrepresented philosophical and religious traditions including feminism, critical race theory, and non-Western worldviews; and studies of science, technology, and ethics.   

  

We anticipate need for adjunct faculty who could teach courses in bioethics, philosophy of science, epistemology, non-Western philosophies and religions (especially Chinese traditions), and critical race theory. All adjunct applicants should have the capacity to teach our core introductory course, Introduction to Philosophy and Religion.

We are looking for outstanding scholars, but successful candidates must also demonstrate teaching excellence and versatility as well as an ability to jump into an existing curriculum with creative and critical pedagogical approaches.  A successful candidate should hold a PhD in Philosophy or Religious Studies or be a doctoral student who is ABD.
