We are excited to offer an opening to join Springer Nature as an Associate Publisher/Publisher in our Physics, Astronomy & Materials journal editorial group. In this role, you will manage and strategically develop a selection of high-quality journals, focusing on general physics and quantum science, while collaborating closely with editors, authors, and the wider research community. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your publishing career in an international, dynamic environment while supporting the advancement of scientific discovery. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of 5-10 journals, acquiring high-quality content, building relationships with the scientific community, and monitoring performance indicators.
Must have:
  • Academic degree in mathematics, computer science, or the physical sciences (ideally physics)
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Strong computer literacy and comfort working with digital tools and platforms
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and as part of a team
  • Positive, proactive approach to problem solving, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including internationally
Good to have:
  • Editorial or publishing experience

About the Role

In this role, you will manage and strategically develop a selection of high-quality journals, focusing on general physics and quantum science, while collaborating closely with editors, authors, and the wider research community. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your publishing career in an international, dynamic environment while supporting the advancement of scientific discovery.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage, co-manage and strategically develop a portfolio of 5-10 journals, focusing on general physics and quantum science.
  • Acquire high-quality content in close collaboration with journal editors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with authors, journal editors, scientific societies, and the broader research community.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure the smooth running and growth of your journals.
  • Co-manage several existing journals alongside other publishers in the group, including:
  • Overseeing topical collections.
  • Supporting the transition of selected journals to Springer Nature’s internal manuscript handling system.
  • Monitor performance indicators (KPIs) and contribute to achieving annual targets for submissions, publications, and turnaround times.
  • Represent the portfolio at conferences, meetings, and events, both in-person and virtually.

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Academic degree in mathematics, computer science, or the physical sciences — ideally in physics.
