Job Summary
Illumina is seeking a highly driven Bioinformatics Engineer 1 to join the DRAGEN Team. This role involves developing automated test infrastructure and bioinformatics tools for large genomic datasets, setting up CI/CD, and improving databases for verification activities. The engineer will lead testing efforts, design verification frameworks, and collaborate with bioinformatics scientists on data analysis and tool development, ensuring adherence to SDLC procedures.
Must Have
- Work independently in cross-functional teams to lead the testing effort for data analysis software
- Design and implement automated software verification framework and scripts
- Work with bioinformatics scientists for data analysis, trouble shooting, and bioinformatics tool development
- Participate in Code and Design Reviews
- Ensure Software Development Life Cycle procedures are followed
- Collaborate with peers to identify opportunities for process improvement
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Ability to work in a Linux environment
Good to Have
- Experience in developing software applications utilizing a high level language such as Python, Java, C# or C++
- Experience in designing or architecting automated verification framework and tests
- Good understanding or interest in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Oncology or related field
- Experience with CI/CD and related tools
- Experience with cloud technologies

The team focus on developing automated test infrastructure and bioinformatics tools to analyze large genomic datasets, setting up a CI/CD and improving the databases and websites that we use for the verification activities.
Responsibilities:
- Work independently in cross-functional teams to lead the testing effort for data analysis software
- Design and implement automated software verification framework and scripts
- Work with bioinformatics scientists for data analysis, trouble shooting, and bioinformatics tool development.
- Participate in Code and Design Reviews

Requirements:
- Strong software engineering fundamentals is required
- Experience in developing software applications utilizing a high level language such as Python, Java, C# or C++ is preferred
- Experience in designing or architecting automated verification framework and tests is preferred
- Have a good understanding or interest in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Oncology or related field
- Be able to work in a Linux environment
- Experience with CI/CD and related tools is preferred

- Be curious, detail oriented, and analytical, with a proven ability to learn quickly
- Be customer-focused, team-oriented, and motivated, taking ownership of assigned tasks
