Job Summary
The Firmware Engineer will be responsible for the firmware/embedded software development of medical devices and associated equipment for respiratory care. This role involves designing and debugging firmware for embedded processors, microcontrollers, and DSPs using C++ in real-time operating systems. The engineer will also create software requirements, architecture, and detailed design documents, manage product transitions from development to production, and ensure timely delivery within budget.
Must Have
- Design and develop firmware for respiratory care medical equipment.
- Create software requirements specifications, software architecture documents, and detailed software design documents.
- Design and debug firmware for embedded processors, microcontrollers, digital signal processors, and other electronic components or circuits using C++.
- Design and debug multi-threaded firmware to run on various real-time operating systems.
- Use test and measurement apparatus, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, communication protocol analyzers, and signal generators.
- Manage the transition of products from the development stage to full-scale production.
- B.S. Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering.
- 4 - 9 years of related work experience.
- Expert level programming skills in C++ for real time environments.
- Experience developing software in various RTOS environments (e.g. FreeRTOS, VxWorks, Yocto Linux).
- Experience implementing highly optimized digital signal processing and pattern recognition algorithms.
- Experience with linear algebra/matrix processing and associated software packages (MATLAB, etc.).
- Experience estimating and planning software development projects.
- Experience using test and measurement equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite, including Microsoft Visio.

The Firmware Engineer will be responsible for the firmware / embedded software development of medical devices and associated equipment.
You are responsible for
- Design and develop firmware for respiratory care medical equipment.
- Create software requirements specifications, software architecture documents, and detailed software design documents based on electrical schematics of the embedded hardware platform.
- Design and debug firmware for embedded processors, microcontrollers, digital signal processors, and other electronic components or circuits using C++ programming languages.
- Design and debug multi-threaded firmware to run on various real-time operating systems.
- Use test and measurement apparatus, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, communication protocol analyzers, and signal generators, to ensure that firmware functions per design requirements.
- Manage relationships with software tools vendors, distributors, and subcontractors.
- Manage the transition of products from the development stage to full-scale production and ensure that products are delivered to market on time and on budget.
- Perform all these tasks under minimal supervision, and possess the ability to complete all phases of major projects
To succeed in this role, you’ll need a customer-first attitude and the following
- B.S. Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering required
- 4 - 9 years of related work experience

How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.
Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
