Job Summary
An exciting opportunity for a Brake Dyno Test Engineer within the Dyno department at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. The role involves acting as a liaison for brake dyno testing, implementing test programs, conducting in-depth data analysis, developing software tools, and running the brake dyno with minimal supervision. The engineer will also be responsible for reporting test progress, managing testbed limits, and continuously improving testing processes to ensure high-quality data and system development.
Must Have
- Act as Dyno Group liaison for internal Brake Dyno testing
- Liaise with Design, Performance, Aero and Race Engineers for test programmes
- Maintain collaborative inter-departmental relationships
- Perform in-depth data analysis and develop software tools for braking systems
- Work closely with technical groups to ensure high quality data
- Run the Brake Dyno with minimal supervision alongside a technician
- Provide clear and concise daily and post-event reporting to stakeholders
- Manage testbed operating limits and specify appropriate instrumentation
- Maintain Brake Dyno data acquisition systems and reporting tools
- Develop test cycles and associated generation/processing tools
- Manage continuous improvement of Brake testing processes
- Manage capability development of Brake Dyno test offering
- Manage and support all Customer Braking test events
- Support enablement of test facilities for commercial use
- Maintain interest/exposure to all areas of car development
Good to Have
- Experience in coding to automate processes, manage data and visualise information
- Analysis of live and logged data for component and system health
- Trackside motorsport experience
- Working knowledge of F1 Braking & associated cooling systems
- Ability to creatively present data in accessible formats
- Experience in configuring instrumentation and data acquisition systems for F1 Braking Systems
- Demonstrable experience of working in a high-performance engineering environment
- Coding in Python, MATLAB, VBA, DAX, Javascript
- Ability to read engineering drawings to understand test assemblies

About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Brake Dyno Test Engineer within our Dyno department.
Key Accountabilities (Duties):
Reporting to the Lead Dyno Test Engineer or their designee, your duties will include:
- Acting as the Dyno Group liaison for all internal Brake Dyno related testing.
- Liaise with our Design, Performance, Aero and Race Engineers to implement test programmes that deliver results to the track within the required timeframes and constraints.
- Maintain collaborative inter-departmental relationships between the departments within the Engineering Group, as well as across our Operations, Finance and Trackside & Aero areas.
- In-depth data analysis and the development of software tools in support of braking system performance and evaluation.
- Work closely with technical working groups to ensure that we deliver the highest practicable quality of data – necessary to drive a Right-First-Time decision making process.
- Running the Brake Dyno together with Dyno technician with minimal supervision.
- Clear and concise daily and post event reporting of test progress to relevant stakeholders (including test items, run plans, and job lists).
- Manage the testbed operating limits in line with the UUT operating envelope.
- Manage, specify and source appropriate instrumentation as required for specific testing requirements.
- Maintain the Brake Dyno data acquisition systems and reporting tools in line with latest MGP protocols.
- Development of test cycles and associated generation/processing tools to enable right first time test sequences.
- Manage the continuous improvement of our Brake testing processes – making sure our next event is an improvement over the previous.
- Manage the capability development of our Brake Dyno test offering, ensuring we explore novel and effective means to benchmark and develop our car braking systems as well as maintain the reliability of our Dyno.
- Manage and support all Customer Braking test events.
- Support the enablement of our test facilities for commercial use.
- Maintaining interest/exposure to all areas of car development (given potential role expansion beyond the Brake Dyno).
Candidate Profile:
Essential:
- Engineering or physics degree, or equivalent qualification(s).
- Strong technical reporting and presentation skills for our Technical facing stakeholders.
- Experience with ATLAS 10 with a keen eye and aptitude for data analysis.
- Familiarity with System Monitor, TAG320/TAG700 & Atlas Data Server configuration.
- Proven ability to take the initiative.
- Curious, committed to continuous learning, and ability to adapt quickly to change.
- Flexibility in hours and approach, with a “can do” / “team playing” attitude.
Desirable:
- Experience in coding to automate processes, manage data and visualise information.
- Analysis of live and logged data to draw conclusion of component and system health.
- Trackside motorsport experience.
- Working knowledge of F1 Braking & associated cooling systems.
- Ability to creatively present data in formats that make it accessible and understandable to a wide range of stakeholders and business areas.
- Experience in configuring instrumentation and data acquisition systems for F1 Braking Systems.
- Demonstrable experience of working in a high-performance engineering environment.
Specific Advantageous Experiences:
