Job Description

The Chemist Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the chemical monitoring and maintenance of surface treatment baths and recycled water, including sampling, analysis (pH-metry, conductimetry, colorimetry, titrimetry, ICP), calculation of concentrations, and corrective actions. The role also involves conducting tests on specimens, performing first-level maintenance of laboratory equipment, and providing technical support to production. This position requires at least 8 years of experience in surface treatment or laboratory work.
Must have:
  • Monitor and chemically maintain surface treatment baths and recycled water
  • Analyze baths using current methods (pH-metry, conductimetry, colorimetry, titrimetry, ICP)
  • Calculate concentrations, readjustments, and corrective actions
  • Monitor conductivity of workshop rinsing baths
  • Record results, make additions, or provide instructions to operators
  • Draft analysis protocols and reports
  • Ensure controls and analyses of rinsing water treatment station
  • Perform tests on specimens following test method protocols
  • Perform first-level maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Manage small equipment and products for laboratory operation
  • Provide technical support to production
  • Chemistry BTS, DUT or BUT degree
  • At least 8 years experience in surface treatment industry, process treatment, or laboratory
  • Mastery of surface treatment processes (degreasing, pickling, electroplating)
  • Good knowledge in Chemistry and material properties (structural, chemical)
Good to have:
  • Mastery of an automatic titrator or use of ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry)

Your daily life:

Within the framework of objectives defined by the Activity Manager, the Laboratory Technician is notably responsible for:

Monitoring and chemical maintenance of surface treatment baths and recycled water:

  • Performing samples according to the analysis periodicity schedule,
  • Analyzing baths according to current analysis methods (pH-metry, conductimetry, colorimetry, titrimetry, and ICP)
  • Calculating concentrations, readjustments, and corrective actions
  • Monitoring the conductivity of the workshop's rinsing baths
  • Recording results, making additions, or leaving instructions for operators
  • Drafting analysis protocols and analysis reports,
  • Ensuring controls and analyses of the rinsing water treatment station
  • Sending samples for subcontracted analysis if necessary
  • Monitoring non-conformities and implementing corrective actions
  • Presenting evolutions of analysis protocols and quality procedures to their hierarchy
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of existing processes

Performing tests on specimens:

  • Launching specimens (plates for pickling or Hull cell) according to the analysis periodicity schedule
  • Performing tests on specimens by applying and respecting specimen test method protocols
  • Sending specimens for subcontracted analysis if necessary

Performing maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment

  • Performing first-level maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment (micropipettes, balances, surface carbon content analyzer, Fischerscope / X-ray Fluorescence, etc.), controlling their calibration and operational conformity
  • Managing small equipment and necessary products for laboratory operation (making purchase requests, etc.)
  • Training operators in the use of laboratory equipment.

Intervening as technical support to production

  • At the request of the hierarchical manager, intervening on activities related to other processes or as a backup for team members in case of absence or increased activity

Your profile:

You ideally have a BTS, DUT, or BUT Chemistry degree.

You have at least 8 years of experience in the surface treatment industry, process treatment, or have evolved within a laboratory.

You master surface treatment processes (degreasing, pickling, and electroplating processes) with good knowledge in Chemistry and material properties (structural, chemical).

Mastery of an automatic titrator or the use of an ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry) is a plus.

You are motivated, curious, rigorous, persevering with a field spirit and good organizational skills.
