Thales Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) UK is seeking a Hardware Engineering Delivery Manager in Crawley. This hybrid role involves working with technical architects on complex engineering programs, ensuring tasks are completed within committed cost, schedule, performance, and quality. Responsibilities include defining hardware development cycles, tailoring engineering environments, allocating responsibilities, and participating in product specification and architecture definition. The manager will oversee the entire hardware solution lifecycle, from requirements to integration and verification, managing stakeholders, resources, and risks.
Must have:
  • Define Hardware development cycle.
  • Tailor Hardware engineering environment.
  • Allocate responsibilities to individual contributors.
  • Participate in specification of product functions and interfaces.
  • Participate in architecture definition and function allocation.
  • Manage Hardware Engineering deliverables throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure cost and schedule adherence.
  • Manage expectations of key stakeholders.
  • Manage resources.
  • Ensure milestone delivery performance.
  • Organize and coordinate Design Reviews & Independent Technical Reviews.
  • Generate hardware engineering estimates for bids.
  • Ensure engineering quality and performance.
  • Manage Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification of Hardware Solution.
  • Provide engineering governance, metrics and reporting.
  • Manage risk and opportunity.
  • Qualification in a hardware engineering related discipline (e.g., BEng(Hons) Electronic or Mechanical Engineering).
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Knowledge of Hardware Development Lifecycles/Engineering Development programmes.
  • Experience liaising across technical and project teams.
  • Experience in budget/financial management.
  • Experience in Programmes, Project or Work Package Management.
  • Knowledge of configuration.
  • Knowledge of Lean & Agile Development techniques.
  • Ability to obtain SC Clearance.

Hardware Engineering Delivery Manager

Thales Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) UK is a principal supplier of UAS, Electronic Warfare and Radar equipment to the UK armed forces, as well as an exporter of these capabilities worldwide.

  • Radars that are capable of detecting foot prints in the grass when someone has walked across a field
  • Digital Radar Electronic Support Measures (RESM) that provides situational awareness and identify threats even in busy Electronic Transmission Environments
  • Radar Electronic Countermeasures (RECM) that can protect assets by denying tactical advantage and distracting incoming threats.

We are currently recruiting a Hardware focused Engineering Delivery Manager to work alongside technical architects to support complex engineering programmes of work.

You would be responsible for the completion of engineering tasks within the committed cost, schedule, performance and quality. The related tasks may cover part or all the range of activities regarding customer needs, mission, function, architectural design, and life cycle of the hardware solution (requirements and speciality engineering, design, development, integration and verification).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Defines the Hardware development cycle in consistency with that of upper/same level elements (dependencies, co-engineering activities).
  • Tailors the Hardware engineering environment (process, practices and tools) according to Company and Project requirements.
  • Allocates responsibilities to individual contributors.
  • Participates in the specification of the functions and interfaces of products to be developed.
  • Participates in the definition of the architecture, and the allocation of functions, to the components for which they have primary responsibility.

A summary of the key tasks includes:

  • Generation/maintenance of the Hardware Engineering Management Plan (HEMP)
  • Management of Hardware Engineering deliverables throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Cost and schedule adherence
  • Management of expectations of key stakeholders (Engineering Delivery Manager, Project Manager, Industrial Manager & Product Manager)
  • Resource Management
  • Milestone delivery performance
  • Organisation and Co-ordination of all Design Reviews & Independent Technical Reviews in accordance with the agreed lifecycle process
  • Generation of hardware engineering estimates as part of company bids
  • Engineering Quality and Performance
  • Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification Management of the Hardware Solution
  • Engineering governance, metrics and reporting
  • Risk and Opportunity management

Experience and skills required

  • Qualification in a hardware engineering related discipline e.g. BEng(Hons) Electronic or Mechanical Engineering
  • Evidence of the ability to lead and motivate a team of people to achieve a goal is important
  • Knowledge of Hardware Development Lifecycles/Engineering Development programmes, including experience liaising across technical and project teams
  • Experience in budget/financial management
  • Experience in Programmes, Project or Work Package Management
  • Knowledge of configuration
  • Knowledge of Lean & Agile Development techniques

Security Clearance Statement

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.

To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
