Job Description

Condé Nast is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform to join its Cloud Platform team. This role involves developing self-service solutions and managing a global EKS platform that supports thousands of applications for hundreds of millions of consumers. The team focuses on building resilient infrastructure, enabling autonomy for engineers, and sharing knowledge through pairing and technical guides. The goal is to provide a single, global, highly resilient platform for deploying and running revenue-driving applications and websites.

Must Have:

Experience working with Kubernetes in production
CKA or equivalent experience
Strong background in software development, having led projects or workstreams
Proficiency in Python, Go, NodeJS, Java or other languages
Experience with Terraform, CI/CD (ideally Github Actions), CDNs, and DevOps best practices
Deep understanding of software architecture and design
Experience building fault tolerant systems or running applications at scale, ideally using AWS
Ability to pair with application software engineering teams to advise on terraform, deployments, architecture, and cost optimization
Monthly out of hours on-call support for the platforms
Focus on cost efficiency
Improving observability of applications, using monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting solutions

Cloud Platform Engineering - Senior Software Engineer (SE3)

Condé Nast, one of the world’s largest publishers, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform experience to join its Cloud Platform team. You will help develop self service solutions, and run a global EKS platform used by hundreds of engineers, to run thousands of applications, in turn used by hundreds of millions of consumers each month.

About Cloud Platform

The Cloud Platform team takes a software engineering approach to infrastructure and aims to build resilience and autonomy into the wider engineering org through knowledge sharing via pairing and the production of technical how-to guides.

The Cloud team is based out of the UK, Spain, Portugal, US and Mexico, with hybrid working in office at all HQ locations. We work with hundreds of engineers from all teams that make up Condé Nast Engineering.

What we’re solving

As a group our goal is to provide a single, global, highly resilient platform enabling the business to deploy and run revenue driving applications and websites.

On a high level we are responsible for:

Providing a large-scale compute platform to serve global brand websites and the deployment of hundreds of applications
Developing a self-service platform so our app engineers can operate efficiently and upskill quickly where needed.
Advising on and reviewing application and infra architecture
Leading on deployment workflows and strategies
Creating terraform modules for popular resources
Improving security & resilience
Providing global github actions workflows as part of self-service tooling

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

Become a subject matter expert across the platform, and help develop Cloud Engineering as a centre of excellence
Focus on cost efficiency
Monthly out of hours on-call support for the platforms we build
Pair with application software engineering teams to advise on - terraform, deployments, architecture, cost optimization
Improving observability of applications, using monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting solutions
Raise the bar on all work and share best practices

About You

Experience working with Kubernetes in production. CKA or equivalent experience
Strong background in software development, having lead projects or workstreams
Python, Go, NodeJS, Java or other languages
Experienced with terraform, CI/CD - ideally Github Actions, CDNs and devops best practices
Deep understanding of software architecture and design
Interest in security best practices
Experience building fault tolerant systems or running applications at scale, ideally using AWS
You enjoy pairing with engineers of all skill levels
Good communication skills
