Job Summary

Technicon is seeking a creative Color & Trim Designer to join an automotive OEM design team in Munich. This role involves developing advanced interior and exterior color and material concepts, researching trends, creating design proposals, and collaborating with various teams to shape the visual identity of future vehicles. The designer will also prepare CMF presentations and support prototype development.

Must Have

  • Develop innovative color, material, and finish (CMF) concepts
  • Research trends, technologies, and new material opportunities
  • Create compelling mood boards, material collections, presentations, and design proposals
  • Work closely with designers, clay modelers, digital modelers, and engineers to integrate CMF concepts
  • Select colors, textures, patterns, and finishes
  • Prepare high-quality CMF presentations using digital tools and physical samples
  • Apply strong visual analysis skills
  • Manage multiple CMF tasks simultaneously and prioritise effectively
  • Communicate clearly within cross-functional teams
  • Degree in Transportation Design, Industrial Design, Textile Design, Fashion, Material Design, or a related field
  • Strong aesthetic judgement and a refined understanding of color, texture, and material composition
  • Skilled in creating CMF concepts using tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and presentation software
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple workstreams
  • Proactive, curious, and passionate about CMF design and innovation

Job Description

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative color, material, and finish (CMF) concepts that enhance the brand’s design language and user experience.
  • Research trends, technologies, and new material opportunities to inform future CMF strategies.
  • Create compelling mood boards, material collections, presentations, and design proposals.
  • Work closely with designers, clay modelers, digital modelers, and engineers to integrate CMF concepts into vehicle projects.
  • Select colors, textures, patterns, and finishes that support both aesthetic vision and technical feasibility.
  • Prepare high-quality CMF presentations using digital tools and physical samples.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to source new materials and understand production capabilities.
  • Support prototype development and provide guidance on material application throughout the design process.
  • Apply strong visual analysis skills to evaluate color and material combinations in various lighting and environmental conditions.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging materials, sustainability innovations, and next-generation manufacturing processes.
  • Manage multiple CMF tasks simultaneously and prioritise effectively.
  • Communicate clearly within cross-functional teams and contribute actively to creative discussions.

Your Profile

  • Degree in Transportation Design, Industrial Design, Textile Design, Fashion, Material Design, or a related field.
  • Strong aesthetic judgement and a refined understanding of color, texture, and material composition.
  • Skilled in creating CMF concepts using tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and presentation software.
  • Experience with material samples, prototyping processes, and supplier coordination is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple workstreams.
  • Proactive, curious, and passionate about CMF design and innovation.
  • Comfortable working onsite at the OEM design studio in Munich.
