Job Summary
As the Open Access Commercial Manager for India, you will support OA enabled revenue growth in the region and contribute to the implementation of the OA strategy. Reporting to the Commercial Director, Open Access China, you will monitor performance, help coordinate OA commercial activities, and contribute to OA growth initiatives in India. This role involves close collaboration with global and local teams to ensure alignment and collaboration.

- Understand dynamics influencing OA growth (pricing, revenue per article, customer behaviour)
- Support data collection and analysis to identify key OA growth drivers
- Monitor, synthesize, and communicate revenue performance across all OA product lines
- Analyze local OA business performance (revenue generation, pricing, market share)
- Identify opportunities for improvement and optimize commercial performance
- Collaborate with global OA Agreements team and local Sales colleagues
- Work with central pricing colleagues to manage Article Processing Charges (APCs)
- Support the implementation of pricing strategies and promotional activities
- Collaborate with marketing team to develop OA thought leadership content and uplift campaigns
- Support market intelligence initiatives to gain insights into author behavior
- Partner with local experts to share insights on customer needs related to OA
- Stay informed about global OA developments and assess local relevance
- Support the identification and evaluation of OA business opportunities in India
- Ensure the wider business is informed about OA goals and commercial plans
- Work closely with local teams (publishing, sales, academic affairs)
- Coordinate with global OA colleagues to share market insights
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
- Stay informed on OA developments and policy changes in India
- Work with local academic affairs and policy team
- Provide regular updates and insights to internal stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., publishing, business, or related disciplines)
- Extensive experience in the academic publishing industry, with a focus on open access
- Strong understanding of the OA landscape, including business models/ agreements, and policy developments
- Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence key stakeholders
- Analytical mindset with basic data interpretation skills
- Fluency in English and local language (both written and spoken)

- Advanced degree preferred
- Familiarity with working in a global or matrixed organization

About the Role
Role Overview
As the Open Access Commercial Manager, India you will support the OA enabled revenue growth in the region, and contribute to the implementation of the OA strategy. Reporting to the Commercial Director, Open Access China. you will monitor performance; help coordinate OA commercial activities and contribute to OA growth initiatives in India. This role involves close collaboration with global and local teams to ensure alignment and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Springer Nature’s regional OA commercial initiatives
- Collaborate across business units to coordinate and drive initiatives that support OA growth. These include, but are not limited to, Open Access Agreements, journal flipping, pricing and author choice activities.
- Understand the different dynamics influencing OA growth, including pricing, revenue per article, customer behaviour, journal metrics. Support data collection and analysis to identify key OA growth drivers and inform strategic decision-making.
Local OA revenue performance
- Monitor, synthesis and communicate revenue performance and behaviour across all OA product lines including journals and books, vs budget and wider market.
- With support from specialised colleagues, analyse the performance of the local OA business, including revenue generation, pricing, payment approaches, market share, and customer satisfaction.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to the development and implementation of strategies aimed at optimizing commercial performance and supporting sustainable OA growth.
OA Commercial Plans
- OA Agreements: Collaborate with the global OA Agreements team and local Sales colleagues to explore and support suitable models for the region that enable OA growth.
- Pricing: Work with central pricing colleagues to manage Article Processing Charges (APCs), including exploring practical approaches such as regional pricing, waivers, discount codes, value-added services, and OA agreement schemes to improve accessibility and market reach. Support the implementation of pricing strategies and promotional activities, including waivers and discount schemes.
- Marketing & OA Thought Leadership: Collaborate closely with the marketing team to develop impactful Open Access thought leadership content and OA uplift campaigns. Support market intelligence initiatives to gain deeper insights into author behavior, publishing preferences, and barriers to OA adoption, helping shape data-driven strategies and engagement efforts.
- Products and Platforms: Partner with local experts to share insights on customer needs related to OA—such as platform usage, and expectations around OA Agreement services. Stay informed about global OA developments and assess their relevance to the local business.
- Market Opportunities: Support the identification and evaluation of OA business opportunities in India, where appropriate.
- Communication: Ensure the wider business is informed about our OA goals and commercial plans through clear and consistent updates.
Collaborate with global and local teams:
- Work closely with local teams including publishing, sales, and academic affairs teams to ensure alignment with OA goals.
- Coordinate with global OA colleagues to share market insights and support global initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally.
Market insights
- Stay informed on OA developments and policy changes in India.
- Work with local academic affairs and policy team. Provide regular updates and insights to internal stakeholders to inform decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., publishing, business, or related disciplines). Advanced degree preferred.
