Job Summary

The DevOps engineer will work on critical publishing products, acting as a full-stack senior developer with development and operational maintenance responsibilities. This role involves collaborating with product owners, architects, and IT teams globally to set up, monitor, and maintain the health and stability of environments for core business applications and services built with various technologies. Key responsibilities include application management, user problem assessment, proactive monitoring, and system upgrades.

Must Have

  • Maintain and manage applications to ensure quality and continuity
  • Participate in assessment of user problems and desired application adjustments
  • Proactively monitor applications to optimize continuity
  • Install, test, and upgrade new and existing applications in Documentum and Mendix
  • Assist product owners with proper release and patch management
  • Advise and train team members on the job
  • Take initiative within the team
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce application related documentation
  • 3-5 years of hands-on technical development/programming experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Excellent knowledge of scripting languages for automation
  • Excellent knowledge of Windows/Linux Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of SQL and crafting SQL queries
  • Knowledge of Docker, Jenkins, Gitlab
  • Knowledge of shell scripting, Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, Java basics
  • Knowledge of cloud applications and architecture (Google/AWS/Azure/Openstack)
  • Experience with performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Good to Have

  • Knowledge of on-premises applications and migrating to cloud
  • JIRA/Confluence knowledge
  • Knowledge of software and infrastructure security
  • Knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and database modeling/querying

About Department:

The Production Technology Department is responsible for the product data and publishing workflow systems and manages content related projects. Together with our internal Springer IT colleagues as well as external software development vendors, we ensure that the systems are further developed and available for the day-to-day business of Springer Nature colleagues worldwide.

About Role:

The DevOps engineer role is a fantastic opportunity to work on a versatile range of products which are critical for the publishing business. You are a full stack senior developer with full-time development and operational maintenance responsibilities working together with product owners, architects, delivery and other IT teams located all over the world. You will setup, monitor and maintain the health and stability of the environments for our core business applications and services built with different technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and managing applications within Springer Nature to ensure quality and continuity from operational perspective
  • Participating in the assessment of user problems and desired application adjustments
  • Proactive monitoring of applications to optimize continuity
  • Installing, testing and upgrading new and existing applications in Documentum and Mendix
  • Assisting and cooperating with product owners of applications to ensure proper release and patch management.
  • Giving advice to team members and train them on the job
  • Feeling great responsibility and taking initiative within the team
  • Developing, maintaining and enforcing application related documentation

Experience, skills and qualifications:

Essential

  • 3-5 years of experience with hands-on technical development/programming
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent knowledge of programming languages for scripting used in automation of complex product environment automation.
  • Excellent knowledge of Operating Systems; Windows/Linux
  • Knowledge of SQL and crafting of SQL queries
  • Knowledge of Docker, Jenkins, Gitlab etc
  • Knowledge of shell scripting, Apache, Tomcat, JBoss and Java basics
  • Knowledge of applications in the cloud and its architecture (Google/AWS/Azure/Openstack)
  • Experience regarding performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Experience in performance and fine tuning of environments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Desirable

  • Knowledge of on premises applications and migrating from on premises to cloud
  • JIRA/Confluence knowledge is a plus
  • Knowledge of software and infrastructure security
  • Knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and knowledge about the coherences when modeling databases and querying them

The position is offered on a full-time, Hybrid, permanent basis and will be located in our Dordrecht office.
