Job Summary
KXAN’s Digital Director leads the newsroom’s digital strategy and daily execution, advancing KXAN’s in-depth, investigative brand across platforms. This role involves coaching a high-performing digital team, collaborating on enterprise and investigative digital presentations, and using analytics to grow loyal, local audiences. The director acts as both a strategist and a hands-on editor, thriving in breaking news, collaborating across broadcast, sales/marketing, and investigative units, and ensuring digital experiences reflect KXAN’s commitment to local journalism across KXAN.com, the KXAN News app, KXAN Weather app, and KXAN+.
Must Have
- Lead newsroom-wide daily digital coverage and live-stream planning.
- Prepare and deliver analytics reports on a daily and monthly basis.
- Collaborate across the newsroom, sales, marketing and production departments.
- Partner with the investigative team on digital presentation and execution.
- Lead digital coverage plans for major events.
- Coach digital team and newsroom on digital-first best practices.
- Proven leadership in digital journalism with a track record growing local audience and engagement.
- Expert at writing and editing for web; headline testing and packaging.
- Strong news judgment; fast, first and accurate in breaking news; meticulous on enterprise/investigative edits.
- Advanced proficiency with analytics, especially Adobe Analytics.
- Working knowledge of SEO and AP Style; comfort coaching reporters on both.
- Operational fluency in WordPress/CMS workflows.
- Experience with live streaming and OTT workflows, push alerts, newsletters, and social publishing.
- Excellent communicator and collaborator; organized multi-tasker who thrives under deadline pressure.
- Positive people leader who provides regular, constructive feedback and fosters an inclusive, high-trust team culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 6–10+ years in digital news; 3–5+ years leading digital teams, ideally including investigative or special projects workflows.
Good to Have
- Familiarity with Chartbeat.
- Bonus for HTML/CSS and basic image/video tools (e.g., Photoshop and Premiere).

You’ll coach and empower a high‑performing digital team, collaborate on enterprise and investigative digital presentations, and use analytics to inform decisions that grow loyal, local audiences. You’ll be both a strategist and a hands‑on editor who thrives in breaking news, collaborates across broadcast, sales/marketing and investigative units, and ensures our digital experiences (site, app, OTT, social) reflect KXAN’s commitment to local journalism.
You will steward KXAN’s digital footprint across KXAN.com, the KXAN News app, KXAN Weather app and KXAN+.
Position Responsibilities
- Lead newsroom-wide daily digital coverage and live‑stream planning, from quick turns and breaking news to enterprise reporting and special coverage.
- Prepare and deliver analytics reports on a daily and monthly basis to inform strategic digital direction
- Collaborate across the newsroom, sales, marketing and production departments at KXAN, as well as with other Nexstar stations and Nexstar corporate on projects and initiatives
- Partner with the investigative team on digital presentation and execution of special reports
- Lead digital coverage plans for major events
- Coach digital team and newsroom on digital-first best practices
