This role will be instrumental in scaling our technical SEO strategy across brands with massive search potential and varied technical stacks.

About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Technical SEO to lead the next phase of organic search growth across IGN Entertainment’s network of brands. This is a highly technical, strategic, and hands-on role that requires deep SEO expertise, experience with e-commerce-style architectures, and the ability to drive results through strong cross-functional collaboration with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Editorial.

The ideal candidate is an experienced operator who thrives in ambiguous environments, builds systems that scale, and knows how to uncover growth opportunities across massive content surfaces. You'll have ownership of technical SEO strategy, implementation, and experimentation for some of the largest and most beloved digital brands in gaming and entertainment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the technical SEO strategy for IGN Entertainment’s global portfolio of brands. Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve crawl efficiency, indexing, internal linking, and structured data across millions of URLs.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to scope, advocate for, and deliver high-impact SEO improvements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between SEO and product/engineering organizations, translating business needs into technical requirements.
  • Drive SEO testing and experimentation in collaboration with analytics teams, using statistically sound methodologies.
  • Work with analytics and data science to monitor site health, build dashboards, and uncover actionable insights using platforms like BigQuery, Looker, and Google Search Console.
  • Develop or oversee development of internal tools to support scalable SEO workflows.
  • Stay ahead of emerging search trends (AI-driven results, shopping experiences, etc.) and identify risks and opportunities proactively.
  • Partner with editorial and content teams to inform scalable content strategies rooted in keyword data and search behavior.

Job Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in technical SEO, with a proven track record of driving growth for large-scale, content-rich websites (1M+ indexed pages).
  • Experience leading SEO for e-commerce or transactional platforms, with familiarity around product detail pages, category pages, merchant feeds, and Google Shopping.
  • Strong experience collaborating directly with engineering and product organizations, ideally in an Agile environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL; experience with Python for scripting, data analysis, or workflow automation is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of how search engines crawl, render, and index modern web applications, including JS-heavy or headless CMS architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with structured data (Schema.org), canonicalization, pagination, hreflang, and other SEO fundamentals.
  • Comfortable analyzing large datasets using platforms like BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar. Experience building dashboards and monitoring tools in Looker Studio, Sheets + Apps Script, or other BI tools.
  • Familiarity with SEO experimentation, A/B testing, and statistical significance (p-values, confidence intervals, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to advocate for SEO priorities with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
