Job Description

At TransUnion, we help people make better decisions by providing global information solutions. This role involves contributing to cloud-native and data-intensive applications, working with cross-functional teams, and maintaining projects for external clients and internal analytics platforms. You will leverage expertise in GCP, Big Data technologies, SQL, and BI technologies to develop and maintain data pipelines and support project outcomes within an Agile/Scrum and DevOps framework.
Good To Have:
  • Experience in Telecommunications
  • Exposure to Kubernetes for deploying and managing scalable applications
  • Experience with ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) and MicroStrategy for data visualization and analytics
  • Experience managing the lifecycle of machine learning models (MLOps)
Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Data Engineering
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience building and managing data pipelines using Spark, Kafka, and Dataproc
  • Proficient in Hadoop, Hive, Hue, Oozie, Sqoop, and Trino
  • Strong SQL skills; experience with MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, BigQuery
  • Skilled in Scala, Python, JavaScript, and Java
  • Strong understanding of Git workflows and experience with GitLab Runner
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and ability to work within those frameworks
  • Demonstrate effective communication and stakeholder collaboration skills across teams

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Data Engineering.
  • Experience in Telecommunications, an asset.
  • Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP); familiarity with on-premises infrastructure.
  • Data Engineering: Experience building and managing data pipelines using Spark, Kafka, and Dataproc.
  • Big Data Ecosystem: Proficient in tools such as Hadoop, Hive, Hue, Oozie, Sqoop and Trino.
  • Databases: Strong SQL skills; experience with MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, BigQuery.
  • Programming Languages: Skilled in Scala, Python, JavaScript and Java.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Exposure to Kubernetes for deploying and managing scalable applications.
  • Version Control & CI/CD: Strong understanding of Git workflows including branching, and merge strategies; experience with GitLab Runner for build and deployment automation.

Impact You'll Make:

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Data Engineer with hands-on expertise across cloud platforms (GCP) and on-premises infrastructure, Big Data technologies, SQL, and BI technologies. You will work with a cross-functional team, further developing and maintaining projects on behalf of external clients and also on our internal analytics and data platform.

Project & Delivery Responsibilities

  • Contribute to project execution and delivery of cloud-native and data-intensive applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project outcomes.
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and ability to work within those frameworks.
  • Support adherence to DevOps and cloud governance practices.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and stakeholder collaboration skills across teams.

Additional Skills

  • Experience with ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) and MicroStrategy for data visualization and analytics.
  • MLOps: Experience managing the lifecycle of machine learning models including training, testing, versioning, and deployment.

This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
