Haleon is a new world-leading consumer health company, improving everyday health for billions with brands like Sensodyne and Panadol. This role, the EU R&D Site and Platforms Lead Oral Health, is a senior position within the Oral Health R&D Leadership Team. It is responsible for delivering excellence in site operations across UK and EU R&D Sites, enabling platform functions, augmenting R&D infrastructure, and leading a high-performing cross-functional team of over 40 R&D professionals.

About the role

The EU R&D Site and Platforms Lead Oral Health (OH SPL) is a senior member of the Oral Health R&D Leadership Team and a crucial contributor to the overall performance of the OH Business / Category. The OH SPL has core responsibility for:

  • Deliver excellence in site operations across UK and EU R&D Sites inclusive of EHS, culture & engagement and productivity.
  • Enabling platform functions (Microbiology, Process Engineering, Pilot plants, Laboratory Managers, Clinical Supplies etc) to have the appropriate capacity and capability to deliver against business goals (i.e. Innovation delivery).
  • Deliver an augmented R&D infrastructure that enables capability and capacity within R&D to achieve business goals.
  • Delivery of R&D infrastructure program including our new OH Innovation centre of excellence.
  • Leading a high performing cross functional team of

>40 R&D professionals to achieve high performance in addition to supporting the growth and development of the team.

Key responsibilities

This role has responsibility and oversight of the activities below with the added complexity of multiple stakeholders, different functions, and governance / business expectations:

  • Key member of the Oral Health R&D Leadership team and broader R&D leadership community, contributing to defining, optimizing and maintaining appropriate commonality in ways of working across innovation, platforms and site teams.
  • Leads with energy and agility a diverse, cross functional R&D team of important enabling functions (Microbiology, Process Engineering, Stability, Clinical Supplies etc) with a focus on delivering business growth, ensuring prioritisation to meet business goals.
  • Drive site employee engagement and enable an invigorating and engaging colleague site working experience.
  • Accountable for the EHS framework (principle Duty Holder) for the all EU R&D sites and for the safety and well-being of site colleagues including compliance to all relevant internal and external standards as well as fostering an EHS culture.
  • Is responsible for ensuring delivery of current and new site facilities and capabilities. Ensuring these sites are operational, compliant (GxP) and support the needs of the business, partnering with Haleon work place solutions.
  • Drives innovation in digital R&D capabilities, driving our digital laboratory and pilot plant infrastructure forward at pace.
  • Is responsible for driving operational and financial productivity of the EU R&D sites against agreed KPIs in partnership with procurement.
  • Is responsible for the active management of our external / augmented R&D capabilities and capacity, ensuring contractual compliance, ongoing productivity and delivery of business goals.
  • Contribute fully to our Win as One culture: Consumer First, always, Collaborate for Impact, Unlock Value @ pace, Grow Myself and Others Demonstrates grow myself others through specific support of scientific and technical development of R&D specialists.
  • Resolve conflicts through skilled negotiation, tact and diplomacy.
  • Personally manage critical projects where required.

Qualifications and skills

Essential

  • BSc level degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate field
  • Experience and proven track record working in R&D leadership roles in a Consumer Goods company.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen – able to turn complex and dynamic challenges into commercial success.
  • Ability to build and maintain networks with multiple stakeholders and peers across different functions within the category, commercial, expert, Business Units and extended R&D functions.

Preferred

  • Experience of site leadership including EHS.
  • Experience of leading a diverse group of R&D disciplines.
  • Proven track record of large capital program delivery.
