Job Description

As a Financial Accountant at dentsu Aotearoa, you will be an important member of the finance team, supporting a complex dentsu Creative service line. You will be responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, insightful analysis, month-end closing, and financial process efficiencies. This role involves contributing to and building trusted relationships across the business to ensure accurate financial health, stability, and success, optimizing resource allocation, and facilitating informed decision-making. You will also lead a team, fostering a collaborative effort across the finance team to support your Service Line. Your responsibilities will include revenue recognition, month-end closing tasks, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, monthly group reporting, managing AP&AR, supporting financial performance analysis, assisting with tax return preparation, ensuring compliance, and supporting audits.
Must have:
  • Newly qualified CA/CPA, or almost qualified.
  • Experience taking ownership of month end closing and reporting.
  • Experience in fast-paced operating environments.
  • Excellent Excel and Technology proficiency.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
Good to have:
  • Experience in advertising/creative/media industry.
  • Experience using Pegasus (accounting software) or similar tools.
  • Leadership experience managing Finance Assistants.

What your role and typical day might look like

You’ll be an important member of our finance team, supporting a complex dentsu Creative service line and responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting and insightful analysis, month end closing, and financial process efficiencies, while supporting a team of juniors under you. The purpose of this role is to contribute and build trusted relationships across the business in order to get an accurate pulse of the overall financial health, stability, and success of the organisation, ensuring sound financial management, optimising resource allocation, and facilitating informed decision-making at all levels. You’ll also be supporting and leading a team too, bring together a collaborative effort across the finance team to support your Service Line.

Responsibilities could include

  • Partner with the business team to ensure accurate revenue recognition by projects and clients.
  • Ensure all month end closing tasks are successfully completed on time and deliver month end reporting variance analysis and commentary.
  • Review and complete balance sheet reconciliations with explanation of outstanding items.
  • Manage intercompany reconciliations and arrange intercompany agreement as required.
  • Submit monthly group reporting (Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Intercompany and Client Reporting) timely and accurately
  • Manage AP&AR and review client’s billings & vendor payments
  • Support commercial finance team with financial performance analysis, financial planning and forecasting.
  • Assist with tax return preparation and submission.
  • Ensure all procedures fulfil group compliance requirements and support internal control assessment upon request.
  • Assist annual external audit and provide internal and client audits support (as required).

A bit about you

  • Newly qualified CA/CPA, or almost qualified.
  • Experience taking ownership of month end closing and reporting cycles is essential.
  • Experience in complex, fast-paced operating environments. Highly advantageous having advertising/creative/media industry experience.
  • Excellent Excel and Technology proficiency. Experience using Pegasus (accounting software) or similar media/creative/advertising industry specific tools is an advantage.
  • A natural problem solver and nurturer of talent - effective at identifying and improving processes to ensure strong practices are in place and using that to support the development of your people. Leadership experience managing Finance Assistants would be beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail - ability to synthesize information using a rational and systematic approach.
  • Open, honest, empathetic and a clear communicator that works well in a team.
