Job Description

The Education Management Reporting, Planning and Analysis [MRPA] team at Macmillan Education supports management with financial information. This 12-month fixed-term role involves periodic financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, advising on data interpretation. Responsibilities include month-end analysis of indirect costs, partnering with cost centre managers for accurate budgets, and presenting forecasts to senior management. The role also covers managing bonus accruals, FTE reporting, and assisting with invoice coding queries, requiring strong Excel skills and a proactive approach.
Must have:
  • Support cost centre managers with the submission of their budgets/forecasts
  • Provide consolidated summaries of cost centre budgets/forecasts at departmental level and present to departmental heads for review
  • Quarterly cost centre review, reporting and tracking including preparing cost centre accruals and ad hoc analysis as required
  • Estimate Adjusted Operating Profit for areas of responsibility on a monthly basis and report to management
  • Review marketing spend monthly and prepared accruals for year end
  • Oversight of central, intercompany, head office and investment in content recharges, raising invoices when required
  • Manage bonus accruals for UK entity
  • FTE reporting – budget/forecast/month end
  • Develop knowledge of SAP as a superuser to assist the wider team with projects and learnings
  • Assist stakeholders with invoice coding queries
  • Reconcile ISBN data and load into system monthly for use by wider team
  • Additional ad-hoc reporting and analysis as required
Good to have:
  • Experience within the publishing industry and/or working within the finance team for a large, global business
  • Confident with complex systems landscapes
  • Experience with SAP and/or Anaplan Workforce Planning

About The Role

The Education Management Reporting, Planning and Analysis [MRPA] team support Macmillan Education’s management with regular and ad-hoc financial information. In this 12 month maternity cover you will undertake ad-hoc and periodic (e.g. monthly, quarterly) reporting of financial data and periodic financial budgeting and forecasting working in appropriate structures for management decision making, as well as advising management on how these data are to be interpreted and what conclusion can be drawn from them.

You will be responsible for providing month-end analysis of indirect costs within the UK business, including all intra Group recharges, as well as partnering with cost centre managers in preparing accurate budgets and forecasts. This will also include support in presenting indirect cost budgets/forecasts to senior management and provide ad hoc analysis of indirect costs as required.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

Essential

  • Part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent preferable with first time passes)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communication with various levels of management
  • Strong knowledge of Excel
  • Highly organised individual who is able to work to deadlines while juggling the demands of the business
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail; able to quickly grasp complex recharging models
  • Proactive and takes initiative; not afraid to ask questions and be curious

Desirable

  • Experience within the publishing industry and/or working within the finance team for a large, global business
  • Confident with complex systems landscapes
  • Experience with SAP and/or Anaplan Workforce Planning
