The role involves a focus on process improvement and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within the Reviewer recruitment team.
Must have:
  • Experience in STM journal publishing.
  • Good understanding of recruitment processes.
  • Understanding the needs of candidates for professional development.
  • Experience in building relationships with external stakeholders.

About the Role 

Springer Nature works with over 1m peer reviewers to ensure that the content that we publish can be trusted by the academic community. The Reviewer Engagement Associate is responsible for recruiting peer reviewers for Springer Nature journals. They will ensure the recruitment pipeline – from screening and onboarding to reviewer support – is efficient, effective, and aligned with the organization’s goals. 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Reviewer Engagement Associate to join our team. The Associate will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with peer reviewers across various academic disciplines. Your contributions will be key to ensuring a high-quality and efficient peer review process, while fostering a collaborative and respectful scholarly environment. 

Roles Responsibilities  

Data management and analysis:

  • Supporting journals and journal publishing colleagues in Reviewer Engagement by assessing journal recruitment needs using pre-defined criteria, developing datasets based on the scope of the journal and related field to and identifying candidates for reviewer board recruitment. 

Customer engagement: 

  • Engaging editorial board members with the recruitment process, ensuring that goals, and processes are clearly communicated to all parties.

  • Working to ensure that suitable candidates are invited to join journals in a timely manner and regular reminders are sent to ensure reviewers are engaged with the process.

Recruitment process management: 

  • Contributing to continuously improving the reviewer recruitment pipeline to ensure a high-quality and a responsive reviewer board.

  • Managing the full reviewer lifecycle - from identification and outreach to onboarding, engagement, and performance tracking—ensuring alignment with journal standards and timelines.

  • Collaborating with internal teams and publishers to build and maintain diverse boards, tailored to the evolving needs of each subject area.

  • Ensuring recruitment goals, expectations, and processes are clearly communicated to all stakeholders, fostering transparency and alignment across teams.

  • Supporting initiatives to recognize and retain high-performing reviewers, enhancing long-term engagement and satisfaction.

  • Maintaining a proactive mindset by being open to taking on additional initiatives and projects beyond defined responsibilities, contributing to team success and organizational growth.

Process improvement: 

  • Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement in the Reviewer recruitment team. 

  • Working to propose ways of improving or building upon existing processes and identifying new ways of supporting reviewer board recruitment at scale.

Key Relationships:

  • Work with the Head of Reviewer Engagement, Team Lead and Reviewer Engagement team to deliver the recruitment strategy. 

  • Collaborate with team members to improve pathways and strategies to optimise candidate recruitment.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications 

Experience: 1 + years

Skills :

  • Experience of STM journal publishing, with a good understanding of peer review and the role of external peer reviewers 

  • A good understanding of recruitment processes. 

  • An understanding of the needs of candidates and a passion for professional development. 

  • Experience in working with and building productive relationships with external stakeholders. 

Qualifications :    

  • University degree, preferably in a relevant discipline.
