Job Description

Join Broadcom's Physical Layer Products (PLP) group as a Firmware Engineer. This role involves designing, implementing, and verifying firmware and software for embedded systems, specifically for optical phy chip sets. Responsibilities include architecting, designing, implementing, and supporting low-level firmware modules, middleware, sample applications, and embedded diagnostics software. The engineer will also be involved in the ongoing development, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of features for existing and new products, often collaborating with cross-functional system, analog, and digital hardware design teams. The position requires troubleshooting embedded C code, providing leadership in development standards, architectural governance, design patterns, and code hygiene. The ideal candidate must be a knowledgeable embedded engineer with excellent teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Must have:
  • Strong software development and documentation skills
  • Develop using C and ARM Assembly on embedded targets
  • Good understanding of real-time systems programming
  • Understand multi-threading and concurrent programming
  • Experience with multiprocessor programming and inter-processor communication
  • Driver experience (MDIO, I2C, SPI, etc.)
  • Strong debugging skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with ARM processor
  • Software development on Windows using Visual C/C++
  • Software development on Linux systems
  • Understand restrictions of proprietary software interfacing to GPL, LGPL, ASL licensed components

Job Description:

Join Broadcom's Physical Layer Products (PLP) group, a world-class team responsible for designing and supporting some of the coolest products in millions of homes and businesses around the world. The engineer in this position will join a team of highly competent firmware developers involved in the design, implementation and verification of firmware and software for embedded systems. The successful candidate will architect, design, implement and support low level firmware modules, middle ware, sample applications as well as diagnostics embedded software. To succeed in this role, you must be a knowledgeable embedded engineer with excellent teamwork and problem solving skills.

You will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of embedded software engineers and be a part of the firmware development cycle of leading-edge optical phy chip sets. In this position you would be responsible for ongoing development of features for our range of embedded products. Responsibilities include; design / implementation / testing and maintenance for existing and new products. Responsibilities:

  • Software design, development of new products and maintenance of the legacy products.

  • Work often involves with the cross functional system, analog and digital hardware designer teams.

  • Troubleshoots code for firmware (embedded C code) applications.

  • Provide leadership and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, design patterns, and code hygiene practices

  • Act as an ambassador for Broadcom, recruiting and motivating top talent

Job Requirements:

Typically requires requires a BSCS/BSEE or equivalent and 8+ years of related experience, a MSCS/MSEE or equivalent and 6+ years of related experience or a PhD and 3+ years of related experience. 

Required Skills:

  • Strong software development and documentation skills

  • Proven ability in developing using C and ARM Assembly on embedded targets

  • Good understanding of programming for real time systems

  • Understanding of multi threading and concurrent programming

  • Experience with multiprocessor programming and inter-processor communication

  • Driver experience (MDIO, I2C, SPI, etc.)

  • Strong debugging skills

Complementary Skills:

  • Experience with ARM processor

  • Software development on Windows using Visual C/C++ environment.

  • Software development on Linux systems in a Linux environment.

  • Understanding of restrictions of proprietary software interfacing to GPL, LGPL, and ASL licensed components.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $108,000 - $172,800 

This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
