Broadcom offers a position in Europe for an experienced IBM Mainframe Specialist.
We are looking for candidates with extensive experience in IDMS z/OS mainframe database management system or equivalent, displaying a range of DBA and SYSPROG disciplines and best practices needed for the database space. Application development experience is a plus.
The candidate will provide technical assistance and recommendations to clients on efficient database administration and management, backup and recovery, optimal performance, and leveraging modernization techniques such as APIs, modern development, etc. The ability to travel to client sites is required for this position.
Primary Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to : presentation, demonstration, installation, configuration, and upgrade for Broadcom IDMS DBMS on the z/OS mainframe.
Secondary responsibilities include general support for z/OS and its subsystems, as well as interfacing with the database.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive adoption of Broadcom Software Solutions at customer sites
- Adopting new open mainframe features such as APIs, modern IDEs, etc.
- When requested by support management, provide on-site and remote assistance for the assigned products. Representing development when on-site assistance is required.
- Provide feedback to the value stream to assist with product development, marketing, and quality of the solutions.
- Provide feedback to product management on customer requirements for future product updates.
- Provide on-site and/or remote technical activities such as site reviews, technical updates, proof of concept (PoCs), or Proof of Value (PoVs) for our customers.
Technical Skills and experience
- 8+ years’ experience with database administration and maintenance, developing and/or maintaining backup and recovery procedures, performance and tuning, and conversions.
- 8+ years’ experience with z/OS.
- 8+ years’ experience in IT.
- Experience with IDMS. CICS, MQ, and z/OSMF a plus.
People and Communication Skills
- Ability to foster lasting relationships with customers and our partners
- Candidates must have excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
- In addition to English, candidates are preferred that speak one other major European language and have the expected Education Degree (Bachelor diploma at least).
- Solid communications skills with the ability to deliver technical presentations
- Ability to listen to client requirements and organize them into a list of business needs and objectives.
- Ability to provide written communication back to management, project managers, and customers.
- Ability to provide knowledge transfer of our solutions and provide instructions to run the solution after implementation is complete.
Customer Focus
- Assist the Broadcom sales team in technically qualifying solutions, specifically Broadcom MAINFRAME Solutions, and their benefits to customers and/or partners.
- Work closely with the account team and the customer or partner to obtain a deep understanding of the customer's technology needs or partner's offerings and architect a solution to meet them.
- Build relationships across customer's or partner's IT silos and offerings to understand, build, document and share our knowledge of their infrastructure, challenges and potential technical impact of planned projects.
- Understand and act as a valued resource early and often within the customer's decision making process (e.g.: during the idea or conceptual stages).
- Execute complex product integration demonstrations and proofs of concept, customizing the demonstrations as necessary to address the customer's specific needs and environment.
- Maintain a deep technical knowledge of the products developed by the business unit.
- Provide technical specifications and requirements documentation as necessary to support the proposed solution.
- Effectively position and present the benefits of Broadcom's solutions and specifically how our solutions will support the client's technical and functional requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight during Trials, Proof-of-Concept (POCs), complex demos, etc., as warranted.
- Ensure technical requirements required by the proposed solution are clearly communicated to and understood by the client and meet the client's expectations.
- Effectively communicate Broadcom's key competitive differentiators.
- Foster and build relationships with customers and partners to develop references.
- Strive to constantly improve the quality of all customer interactions.
