Job Description
As a Freelance Producer, you will be responsible for organizing and promoting shows to build a strong community in the Bronx. You will partner with local operations and marketing teams to produce exceptional shows, develop local marketing initiatives, and expand Sofar's footprint. You will curate and book shows, build local relationships, source venues, ensure show quality, create a growth strategy, promote and sell tickets, create content for promotion, and build relationships with local organizations. This role requires entrepreneurial spirit, strong business sense, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. You will need to attend the shows and ensure they are magical and rooted in hospitality. You will also create content to promote the shows and work with external photographers and videographers.
Must have:
- 1-3 years of experience in live event curation

The Role
As a Freelance Producer, you’ll organize and promote shows to build a strong and vibrant Sofar community in your borough. You’ll be a true Sofar ambassador – partnering closely with the local NYC city operations and marketing teams to produce exceptional shows, conceptualise and execute local marketing initiatives, and expand Sofar’s footprint in the community.
Our Producers have strong business sense, maintain a keen awareness of cultural trends, and have communities that they can easily tap in to organize amazing live events (including performers, locations, sponsors, etc.). They’re entrepreneurial, resourceful, and driven; whether it’s figuring out how to creatively sell tickets or dealing with a live event curveball, they know how to get things done and thrive on the challenge. *Please note: Our Producers are freelancers who earn commission-based pay. It will allow for a flexible schedule, but your activities will likely take place over weekends and evenings.
- Lead curation and booking for shows in your borough, continuing to grow our networks as needed
- Develop local relationships in each city to ensure Sofar’s artist bookings are genuinely connected to, and representative of the city, including managing local scouting across your market
- Source and onboard unique venues that align with Sofar’s brand and mission
- Own the quality of your shows (including attending shows), working closely with the local NYC team to ensure magical experiences that are rooted in hospitality
- Create a vision and collaborate with the local NYC team to build and execute your strategy to grow this borough - number of monthly shows, neighborhoods, show theme ideas, etc.
- Promote and sell tickets in your borough with self-directed local marketing tactics.
- Create content to help promote your shows, either coordinating with external photographers and videographers or producing your own content
- Identify and build relationships with local organizations with like-minded audiences to build community, broaden our reach, and co-promote shows
- You have 1-3 years of experience in live event curation, promotions, social media marketing, sales, and/or partnerships.
- You have a deep network within the local community, including emerging and established performers. You have a sharp eye for discovering talent.
- You are passionate about the arts, and eager to capitalize on everything that a Sofar show offers – including building local connections and giving opportunities to artists in your community
- You have a strong pulse on your city, the unique nature of each neighborhood, and where people like to spend their free time
- You know how to connect with diverse community-driven organizations, media partners, or local businesses that would add strategic value to growing our presence in NYC
- You’re actively engaged in your local cultural scene and build community around it
- You have exceptional time management skills and are a clear written communicator
