Job Summary

As a Game Designer, reporting to the Lead Designer, you will be responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing high-quality core game systems and content. Your role will encompass systems, characters, economy, and meta design, requiring you to deliver features with minimal supervision and continuously improve your pipeline.

Must Have

  • Design, document, and implement core game systems and content at high quality.
  • Model, create, automate, and balance game data into spreadsheets and schemas.
  • Create, configure, and maintain game components, characters, skills, systems in-engine.
  • Own end-to-end implementation of assigned features, from spec to playable build.
  • Design rules, parameters, progression curves, and meta systems.
  • Iterate systems based on internal feedback and metrics.
  • Fine-tune economy flows, resource sinks, balance, and synergy layers.
  • Produce clear, actionable design docs, specs, and mockups.
  • Drive task feature breakdowns with the team from generated documentation.
  • Propose improvements to toolsets, pipeline, and data flows.
  • Help maintain alignment with the game’s vision.
  • Communicate design choices to engineers, artists, and producers.
  • Provide feedback, review build outcomes, and address regressions.
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma (or equivalent) in a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience on at least one shipped title, with significant exposure to technical design or systems design.

Good to Have

  • Experience working in live-ops titles, balancing features post-launch.
  • Scripting experience.
  • Strong math skills.

Reporting to the Lead Designer, as the Game Designer you will design, document, and implement core game systems and content at high quality. Your work will touch systems, characters, economy, and meta design. You’ll deliver features with minimal supervision, owning and improving your pipeline.

You can expect to be responsible for:

  • Feature Implementation & Content Build
  • Model, create, automate and balance game data into spreadsheets and schemas.
  • Create, configure and maintain game components, characters, skills, systems, etc. in-engine.
  • Own end-to-end implementation of assigned features, from spec to playable build.
  • Systems Design & Tuning
  • Design rules, parameters, progression curves, and meta systems.
  • Iterate systems based on internal feedback and metrics.
  • Fine-tune economy flows, resource sinks, balance, and synergy layers.
  • Documentation & Technical Specification
  • Produce clear, actionable design docs, specs, and mockups.
  • Drive task feature breakdowns with the team from generated documentation.
  • Propose improvements to toolsets, pipeline, and data flows.
  • Cross-Discipline Collaboration & Vision Advocacy
  • Help maintain alignment with the game’s vision.
  • Communicate design choices to engineers, artists, producers.
  • Provide feedback, review build outcomes, and address regressions.

Your background includes:

  • Qualification
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma (or equivalent) in a related field
  • Experience
  • Experience working with Unity 3D and ability to work independently in-editor, setting up content, prefabs and improving hierarchies and dependencies.
  • Experience with spreadsheets, csv, and other forms of data entry, handling complex data relationships.
  • 2+ years of experience on at least one shipped title, with significant exposure to technical design or systems design in shipped titles.
  • Intellectual curiosity and logical thinking, able to trace, debug, and resolve data and behavior issues independently.
  • Rock-solid organizational and project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • A hunger for new, different, and exciting design challenges
  • Experience working in live-ops titles, balancing features post-launch is a plus.
  • Bonus if you have raw technical skills including;
  • Scripting experience
  • Strong math skills

The typical hiring range listed above is specific to candidates located in Vancouver. The salary will be determined based on your knowledge, skills and competencies.
