Job Summary

As a Game Economy and Systems Designer, you will be the key contact for economic design and monetization strategy, driving the optimization of in-game progression, player retention, and microtransaction systems. You will audit and improve economic models, providing critical analysis and recommendations to increase ARPU and retention metrics across the HD game portfolio. You will lead balancing tests, support cross-team collaboration, and leverage emerging technologies like AI to refine the economy. You will also foster expertise and advocate for process improvements and industry best practices within the economy design community.

Must Have

  • Help HD production teams design and improve their monetization strategy and economic model.
  • Audit economic models, progression, and retention systems of the HD game portfolio, and make recommendations to improve ARM metrics.
  • Monitor economy balancing tests (playtests, quality control) and support GAAS title validation.
  • Audit economic management tools and operational tracking processes, leveraging AI for optimization of microtransactions and retention.
  • Lead and represent the economy designer community, advocating for their interests and improving recruitment processes.
  • Conduct competitive intelligence and benchmarking to disseminate external trends and best practices.
  • Foster economic design expertise through leadership, coaching, training, and mentoring juniors.
  • Degree in economics, game design, management, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in economic design, monetization strategies, or systems design in the video game industry.
  • Strong experience in free-to-play (F2P) games, live service models (GAAS), or similar environments.
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring teams focused on economic design and player retention.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing, data analysis, and performance indicators related to monetization and retention.
  • Expertise in economic modeling, game economies, and player progression systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL).
  • Ability to interpret market trends, perform competitive analysis, and apply insights to improve monetization.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Good understanding of player behavior and retention strategies, with a focus on maximizing player lifetime value (LTV).

You will lead balancing tests, support cross-team collaboration, and leverage emerging technologies like AI to refine the economy.

As a leader within the economy designer community, you will foster expertise and advocate for process improvements and industry best practices.

What you will do

  • Help HD production teams design and improve their monetization strategy and economic model by being the primary point of contact for questions related to economic design, progression, and retention.
  • Audit economic models, as well as progression and retention systems of the HD game portfolio, and make recommendations to improve all ARM metrics.
  • Monitor economy balancing tests (playtests, quality control), providing ad-hoc support in collaboration with other support teams, and being a key player in the GAAS title validation process.
  • Audit economic management tools and operational tracking processes related to progression and economy, and leverage emerging technologies (e.g., AI) and methodologies to help teams optimize their microtransactions and retention.
  • Lead and represent the economy designer community, while advocating for their interests and contributing to the improvement of recruitment processes and practices.
  • Conduct competitive intelligence and benchmarking to disseminate external trends and best practices in the field within the company.
  • Foster economic design expertise within LRS and the monetization community through leadership, coaching, and training on key topics, as well as mentoring juniors to help them make economic and retention decisions.

Qualifications

What you bring to the team

  • A Degree in economics, game design, management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in economic design, monetization strategies, or systems design in the video game industry, as well as strong experience in free-to-play (F2P) games, live service models (GAAS), or similar environments.
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring teams, with a focus on economic design (economic balancing, progression systems, and microtransactions) and player retention.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing, data analysis, and performance indicators related to monetization and retention.
  • Expertise in economic modeling, game economies, and player progression systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, or equivalents).
