Job Description

This Mid-Senior Level Gameplay Programmer will actively contribute to the development and maintenance of gameplay systems with partial ownership, working independently on mid-level challenges. The role involves applying clean code practices, prototyping and implementing gameplay features, and collaborating across teams. The programmer will also guide junior developers while refining technical depth and decision-making skills, focusing on client and/or server-side functionalities using engines like Unreal, Unity, or Gameloft's internal engine.
Must Have:
  • Build and maintain gameplay systems with a focus on client and/or server-side functionalities.
  • Collaborate with game designers and artists to integrate and iterate on gameplay mechanics.
  • Implement game UI, gameplay features, game events, and rewards systems.
  • Resolve mid-level technical issues independently with minimal supervision.
  • Develop and maintain technical tools and automation solutions.
  • Optimize user experience and performance across multiple devices (PlayStation, xBox, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, Android).
  • Estimate tasks and plan feature implementation in collaboration with leads and producers.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Help support and guide junior team members, fixing bugs.
  • Contribute to improving workflows and documentation.
  • Participate in documentation, feedback loops, and regular team meetings.

JOB DETAILS

Job Purpose

You will actively contribute to the development and maintenance of gameplay systems with partial ownership. You are expected to work independently on mid-level challenges, apply clean code practices, and help prototype and implement gameplay features. You will also collaborate across teams and may guide junior developers while refining your technical depth and decision-making skills.

Main Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain gameplay systems with a focus on client and/or server-side functionalities of the gameplay features. (Depending on the specific project, the game engine can be Unreal, Unity or Gameloft internal engine).
  • Collaborate with game designers and artists to integrate and iterate on gameplay mechanics, including implementing game UI, gameplay features, game events, rewards systems and other mechanics to enhance player retention and satisfaction.
  • Resolve mid-level technical issues independently with minimal supervision
  • Develop and maintain the technical tools and automation solution to streamline the game development and content creation workflow.
  • Optimize the user experience and performance to ensure smooth experience on many devices (PlayStation, xBox, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS devices, Android phones).
  • Estimate tasks and plan feature implementation in collaboration with leads and producers
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including local team members and/or in team members from other Gameloft studios in Montreal, Brisbane, Barcelona… in cross studios project for global markets
  • Help support and guide junior team members, fixing bug
  • Contribute to improving the workflows and documentation
  • Participate in documentation, feedback loops, and regular team meetings
