Job Description

What is Asobo Studio?

The answer in video from David Dedeine, co-founder and Creative Director of the studio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFjvF29zUZM

In short: Innovation x Immersion x Emotion

For over 20 years, we have been behind 25 games for PC and consoles, including famous licenses, original games, and innovative creations.

Today, we work with over 300 employees on Microsoft Flight Simulator, the A Plague Tale franchise, and HoloForge, the studio's XR department.

Our goal as a studio is to create exceptional, memorable interactive experiences for our players.

Pursuing this goal is our source of daily inspiration and satisfaction. It pushes us to always do better, to progress, and to surpass ourselves: this is what guides us and gives meaning to everything we do here.

Why joining us for this position is a great opportunity?

Because it's the prospect of joining an experienced and very ambitious team where you will be encouraged to give your best and ultimately continue to develop your expertise. Our goal is to create strong emotions for our players, and you will concretely participate by ensuring the narrative experience across several levels on the studio's new narrative project.

The team and missions

Under the supervision of Clémentine, Lead Narrative Designer, you will evolve within a team composed of a Level Designer, a Level Artist, and a Level Builder.

Based on the Creative Direction's brief, you will be responsible for staging the narration within the levels.

You will propose, integrate, and adjust the elements composing the narrative events in the levels: dialogues, animations, NPC interaction systems... You will ensure the follow-up of the creation of these elements with the different departments (narration, design, art, animation, code...) and remain involved until debugging and final polish.

Day-to-day, this translates into constant collaboration with:

  • the Writers, to iterate on dialogues and staging in light of your integration (line length, density, content, etc.)
  • the Level Designer of your team, to pace and stage the gameplay in the different levels
  • the Level Artist and Level Builder of your team, to set up a coherent environmental narration

The fundamentals for succeeding in this role

  • You have a minimum of 4 years of experience in AA/AAA video game development, PC/consoles
  • You master a scripting language
  • You master integration in a real-time 3D game engine (proprietary, Unreal Engine, Unity...)
  • You have a first experience on a narrative game
  • You have a solid cinematographic and video game culture
  • You are comfortable in a team and collaborating effectively with different departments
  • You have excellent communication: easy contact, clarity of purpose, ability to synthesize, both written and oral (knowing when to get up from your chair to speak live rather than sending an email)
  • You have good analytical skills: identify everything that makes a sequence work or not
  • You are rigorous, conscientious, with a keen sense of detail
  • You are a creative person and demonstrate originality in the ideas proposed while being able to question yourself/receive criticism
  • You have a taste for iteration and the constant search for the best version of a sequence
  • You are operationally proficient in French and English (read, written, spoken)
