Job Summary
DONTNOD Studios is looking for a Level Scripter Team Lead for its next project developed 100% in Montreal. You will manage a team of Level Scripters, ensuring game levels are scripted and built according to creative briefs, technical constraints, and game intentions. Your mission includes defining content creation workflows, providing creative feedback, supervising prototypes, and collaborating with programming and art teams to deliver a unified game experience.
Must Have
- Manage a team of Level Scripters (up to 5 people) with varying seniority levels.
- Implement design content creation workflows, tools, and pipelines in collaboration with other departments.
- Define best practices, provide guidance, creative and scripting feedback, and coordinate with other departments.
- Oversee feedback implementation from directors, narrative designer, playtests, and analyses with Level Scripters.
- Supervise prototype creation in collaboration with programmers to test and refine gameplay mechanics.
- Collaborate with programmers to build the technical roadmap, linking technical and creative aspects.
- Ensure levels appear lively, natural, exciting, and immersive, focusing on orchestration, animation scripting, character/AI routines, and event pacing.
- Create and maintain documentation describing scripting tools, best practices, and technical specifications.
- Support Level Scripters in translating design intent into gameplay logic.
- Regularly playtest content to ensure it meets quality, design standards, and stability requirements.
- Coordinate with other disciplines, including art, programming, and narrative, to integrate elements into a unified game experience.
- Collaborate with the production team to manage level scripting resources, sprint planning, and high-level roadmaps.

What will be your job?
Reporting to the Project Producer, you will manage the team of Level Scripters and ensure that the game levels are scripted and built in accordance with creative briefs, while respecting technical constraints and the game's core intentions.
Your mission will be:
- Manage a team of Level Scripters (up to 5 people), with different levels of seniority;
- Implement design content creation workflows, tools, and pipelines in collaboration with other departments;
- Define best content creation practices, provide guidance, give creative and scripting feedback, and coordinate with other departments when necessary;
- Oversee feedback from directors, the narrative designer, playtests, and analyses with Level Scripters: implementation, discussions, compromises, etc.;
- Supervise the creation of prototypes in collaboration with programmers to test and refine gameplay mechanics;
- Collaborate with programmers to build the technical roadmap: help bridge the gap between technical and creative, and support the definition of priorities necessary for design objectives;
- Ensure that levels feel alive, natural, exciting, and immersive: focus on orchestration, animation scripting, character/AI routines, pacing of scripted events, etc.;
- Create and maintain documentation throughout the development process describing scripting tools, best implementation practices, and technical specifications;
- Support Level Scripters in translating design intent into gameplay logic;
- Regularly playtest content to ensure it meets quality requirements, design standards, and stability requirements;
- Coordinate with other disciplines, including art, programming, and narrative departments, to integrate different elements into a unified game experience;
- Collaborate with the production team to manage level scripting resources, sprint planning, high-level roadmaps, and schedules.
Qualifications
What skills should you have?
- More than 5 years of experience in the video game industry as a Level Scripter or similar position;
- More than 3 years of successful experience managing a team of designers or Level Scripters;
- Proven experience working on at least two complete production cycles of published video games;
- Proven experience with Unreal Engine 5 and good knowledge of Blueprint;
- Great rigor, analytical mind, good ability to react in an iterative environment, and flexibility to change;
- Technical affinity with basic programming knowledge and/or technical constraints in the video game industry;
- Ease in communication, collaboration, and presentation with different team members;
- Experience working across the entire design spectrum (game, level, and technical design) using visual scripting tools;
- Excellent knowledge of adventure games that feature strong narrative, dialogue, and storytelling components;
- A developed sense for scene orchestration and rhythm, animation scripting, character/AI routines to create content that feels alive and responsive.
